Last week, Montgomery Academy rising senior Tara Samant joined a number of other community leaders on the south lawn of the state capitol as part of a nation-wide simultaneous reading of the Declaration of Independence. Afterwards, Tara took part in revealing the recently restored Liberty Bell replica, all part of Alabama's celebration of the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding. Thank you Tara for representing MA so well at this momentous occasion!

Hosted at Samford University's campus, the Alabama Governor's School is an annual summer-time residential honors program providing academic, creative, and leadership experiences for a select number of rising high school juniors and seniors who have demonstrated exceptional ability and achievement in their studies. The Montgomery Academy was thrilled that our own Chloe Stanton was chosen to attend this year's session and we are proud to share her experience today! πŸ¦…β€οΈπŸ’™

"I am so grateful that I was selected to participate in Alabama Governor's School's Class of '26! On the first day during orientation, our director, Dr. Westmoreland, told us to look to our left and to our right, saying that the friendships we make would last a lifetime. She couldn't have been more right. The two weeks I spent on Samford's campus with 100 other students was truly a rewarding experience. Being around other high-achieving students from across Alabama motivated me to be my best and step out of my comfort zone. Going on outings, participating in game nights, and having late night conversations with my roommates helped me build meaningful connections that continued to grow throughout the two weeks. Attending my Legal seminar in the mornings and learning how the law impacts our daily lives through various speakers helped reinforce the importance of ensuring it benefits the people. Getting to see its application in real life at the Hugo L. Black Federal Courthouse, where we watched three sentences delivered, revealed the humanity of those convicted and how difficult sentencing deliberations are. My afternoon seminar, Health Professions, demonstrated different healthcare careers such as Speech and Language Pathology, Kinesiology, and Physical Therapy through simulations, interactive learning, and competitions. Learning about these different fields helped me understand how integral they are to our society, not only in response to trauma, but also in everyday life. Overall, Alabama Governor's School provided me with a community built on leadership, genuine connections, and encouragement and was an experience that I will never forget!"

The Montgomery Academy is proud to announce that our own Dr. Damion Womack has been named the 2026 recipient of the prestigious Thomas R. Smith Award for Excellence by the Alabama American Choral Directors Association (ACDA).

Initiated in 2008, this statewide honor recognizes individuals who have made a profound, positive impact on choral music in Alabama. To even be considered, nominees must have at least 25 years of active service, consistently demonstrate the highest musical standards, and earn the deep respect of colleagues and students alike. Dr. Womack embodies all of this and more.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Womack on this well-deserved honor!

Earlier this month, rising senior Morgan Springer represented Montgomery Academy at the American Legion's Girls State on the University of Alabama campus. Alabama Girls State is one of the highest honors granted to Alabama students. Students from across the state are chosen based on their demonstration of leadership, hard work, strong morals, and motivation in school & community activities.

"Girls State was an amazing experience that allowed me to participate in mock legislative sessions, listen to inspiring speakers, and make lifelong friends from all over the state. Appointed as devotion chair, I shared scriptures every night with the girls in my city and I led a patriotic service for the general assembly. I also had the opportunity to serve as Chief of Staff to the Lieutenant Governor, experiencing a unique tour of the Senate and House floors on Friday as we traveled to the Capitol. Alabama Girls State concluded with the closing ceremonies where my city of Yellowhammer won the city competition and I was honored to receive the Good Citizen award. I am so thankful to The Montgomery Academy and the American Legion Auxiliary for this incredible experience!"

Thank you to Morgan for representing MA so well and for sharing photos & thoughts from her experience with us!
