𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗠𝗿. 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗲𝗵𝗿, 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆/𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲!

𝗔 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗲: I lived in four different cities, in four different school districts, before finishing elementary school. Poster child for dysfunctional education. My people would describe me as quiet (until I get to know you), sarcastic, and loyal.

𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆: Quietly doing as little as possible, preferably from a quiet coffee shop with coffee and a pastry in hand. I could talk for hours about my two favorite subjects: Korea and history.

𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹: My favorite books are 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦 𝘊𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰 and 𝘋𝘰𝘯 𝘘𝘶𝘪𝘹𝘰𝘵𝘦. I've read them more times than I can count and still find something new each time. If I could travel anywhere tomorrow, I'd go back to South Korea, where I taught for a while, to see old friends and former students.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗜 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵: My grandfather instilled my love of history in me. I'm proud of graduating high school and university. My students would probably be shocked to hear I was once told I'd never do either. My advice, which I teach every year: study smart, not hard. My favorite part of the job is that moment a student who's struggled finally understands the story behind the dates. I hope my students remember that I was tough because I truly cared about their education and future.

𝗔 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲, 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝗻: favorite seasons are spring and fall, song on repeat is "Praying for a Miracle" by Erik Grönwall, and dream vacation is a return trip to Ha Long Bay in Vietnam. If teaching wasn't in the picture, I'd probably be an archivist.

We were blessed to welcome Luke Hall from Trinity Outreach to River Region Academy on Tuesday, August 25! 🙏💙

Luke spent time with our high school students, praying with them, encouraging them, and offering meaningful mentorship. We are grateful that he will continue joining us every other Tuesday morning throughout the school year to provide guidance, encouragement, and spiritual support.

What a blessing it is to have caring Christian mentors who invest in the lives of our students and encourage them to grow in faith, character, and confidence. ✝️

Our first FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) meeting of the 2026-2027 school year took place on Thursday, August 20, led by Jameson Stephens! 🙏💙

We are grateful for the opportunity to pray with and mentor our high school students and to encourage them in their faith journey. Jameson will continue serving as a Christian mentor every Thursday morning throughout the school year, offering guidance, encouragement, and spiritual support to our students.

We are thankful for those who invest their time and hearts in helping our students grow – not only academically, but spiritually and personally as well. ✝️

✨ Three Weeks In, and We’re Already Seeing Something Magnificent! ✨

The first three weeks of school at River Region Academy have been nothing short of magnificent! 💙 Our doors opened on August 10, 2026, and the energy, purpose, and joy on campus have set the tone for what promises to be our best year yet!

During opening week, Mr. Charles Lee, Executive Director and CEO of TMC (That’s My Child), spoke with our high school students about meaningful career opportunities and the powerful programs he has created to support youth and strengthen our community. His message of empowerment, purpose, and possibility truly resonated with our students.

Our connection with Mr. Lee began through the late Mr. Jamal Doaty, whose impact on River Region Academy and our community continues to be felt. Jamal believed in investing in young people, opening doors, and helping students see what is possible for their futures. We are grateful that his legacy continues to connect and inspire others who share that same passion for our youth.

We are thankful for the relationships and partnerships that make experiences like this possible—and especially for the opportunity to do it for Doaty by continuing to invest in the future of our students. 💙

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗠𝘀. 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗰𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗱, 𝟯𝗿𝗱-𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿!

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲: Most people would be surprised to know I can be stubborn! My friends and family would describe me as helpful, friendly, and artistic.

𝗔 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆: Painting, though let's be honest, house cleaning usually has to happen first. 🎨

𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁𝘀: If you're wondering where I get it from, my parents have been the biggest influence on my life.

𝗔 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: One I'm especially proud of? Learning to do watercolors last year.

𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗜 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝘆: Give 100% to whatever you're doing. Simple, but it's stuck with me.

𝗔𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲: Cats, dogs, babies, and sunsets. 🐾🌅

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴: My older sisters were teachers, and I had great teachers of my own growing up. That combination made the decision for me. My favorite part of the job is that moment a child "gets it." I hope my students remember my kindness.

𝗔 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀: pizza 🍕, the show 𝘚𝘩𝘦𝘵𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥, crime shows in general, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘥 𝘛𝘦𝘯𝘵 book 📖, spring 🌸, 𝘈𝘵𝘰𝘮 𝘈𝘯𝘵 as my favorite childhood cartoon, and "Celebrate Me Home"🎵.

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗯𝘂𝗴: I could talk about traveling for hours, and if I could hop on a plane tomorrow, I'd go right back to Scotland or Norway. My dream vacation is a cruise around the world ⛵, and seeing all the national parks in the U.S. is on my bucket list.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗥𝗥𝗔: the other teachers.

𝗜𝗳 𝗜 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴: Honestly? I'd be doing exactly what I already am when I'm not at RRA, enjoying retirement!

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗠𝗿𝘀. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘆 𝗬𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗱, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗹!

𝗜𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀, 𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳: My daughter Emily says I'm kind, supportive, and creative. 💛 My son Nick says I'm awesome, sweet, and caring. My son-in-law Jordan says I'm passionate, charismatic, and empathetic.

𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀, 𝗺𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘆: Card making 🎨, or just time with family. My parents have been the biggest influence in my life, and my kids are what I'm proudest of, hands down. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Dogs and cats never fail to make me smile. 🐾

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗠𝗿𝘀. 𝗪𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝘁𝗼𝗻, 𝟰𝘁𝗵-𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿!

𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁: I have triplets, Dawson, Hannah, and Emily! 3️⃣ If you ask my family, they'd describe me as joyful, witty, and thoughtful.

𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀: Shopping or just soaking up time with my family. Honestly, give me the beach or my kids and I'm happy 🏖️, those are the two things I could talk about forever. My mom has been my biggest influence, and I'm proudest of the people my children have become.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗜 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵: My own 1st grade teacher made a big impression on me. My favorite part of the job is that moment a student "gets it." Years from now, I just hope my students remember that I truly cared about them.

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸: If I could hop on a plane tomorrow, I'm headed to the Maldives ✈️. Key West is on my bucket list, and my dream vacation is really just anywhere with a nice beach. 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘂𝗽 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻: If I hadn't gone into teaching, I probably would've ended up a lawyer.

𝗠𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀:
