A wooden block becomes a brave explorer. A scarf turns into a river. Suddenly, the classroom has a story to tell! 🧱🧣✨
During loose-parts storytelling, children use everyday classroom objects to create characters, settings, and plot twists. They arrange their ideas into a beginning, middle, and end: then explain what changed along the way. “The bunny was going home… but then the bridge disappeared!”
These playful moments build narrative language, sequencing skills, imagination, listening, and confidence as children share their thinking with others.
Through The Creative Curriculum, our teachers listen closely and support children’s ideas without taking over the story. We might wonder, “What happened next?” or “How did your character solve that problem?”: but the children remain the authors. 📚
Try it at home: choose three ordinary objects and make up a tiny story together. What is the beginning? What surprise happens in the middle? How does it end? Bonus points for a plot twist involving a sock. 😉
