CSAAC was pleased to welcome leaders from Montgomery County Public Schools and Montgomery County Board of Education Member Rita Montoya for an important conversation about supporting students with autism and their families.

Our leadership team shared updates on the Community School of Maryland, our upcoming second school in Gaithersburg, plans for the Germantown Vocational Campus, Youth Services, and our vocational, transition, and employment programming.

Thank you to Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor, Board of Education Member Rita Montoya, and the MCPS leadership team for taking the time to learn more about CSAAC and explore opportunities for continued partnership and collaboration.

We look forward to building on the conversation and expanding opportunities for students and families throughout Montgomery County.

🎉 Celebrating a New Milestone for CSAAC: Welcome to Green Acres!

CSAAC was proud to celebrate the ribbon cutting of Green Acres Senior Services Residence, a senior-adapted home designed to support the changing needs of individuals as they age.

Situated on a beautiful 7.58-acre property, Green Acres was thoughtfully designed with accessibility, comfort, safety, and independence in mind, including features that support individuals with limited to no mobility.

As CSAAC currently supports 42 individuals over the age of 60, Green Acres represents an important step in our continued commitment to providing lifelong support and creating environments that promote dignity, independence, and quality of life at every stage.

We were honored to celebrate this special occasion with Nivea Cordova Berrios, President, CSAAC Board of Directors; Mark Maceira, CSAAC Board Treasurer; Hans Berg, CSAAC Board Member; Eric Salzano, CSAAC Executive Director; representatives from Congressman Jamie Raskin’s office; Maryland State Delegate Charlotte Crutchfield, District 19; Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich; Montgomery County Councilmember Shebra Evans, At-Large; Hope Klein, representing Montgomery County Councilmember Dawn Luedtke, District 7; Dr. James Bridgers, Director, Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services; Chris Leacock, representing Daria Cervantes, CEO of The Arc Montgomery County; Linda Bergofsky, Co-Chair, Montgomery County Commission on Aging; CSAAC Leadership; and members of our CSAAC families.

🎉 Celebrating Excellence During DSP Recognition Week!
CSAAC is proud to recognize Sonia Dennis, who received the Outstanding Direct Support Professional Award at the Montgomery County Inter-Agency DSP Appreciation Event!
This well-deserved recognition honors Sonia’s dedication, compassion, and commitment to supporting the individuals we serve. Her work reflects the important role Direct Support Professionals play every day, helping individuals achieve greater independence, pursue their goals, and live meaningful and fulfilling lives.
In reflecting on the recognition, Sonia shared that the award inspires her to continue serving with “compassion, excellence, and purpose” and that she is proud to be part of the CSAAC team.
During DSP Recognition Week, we congratulate Sonia on this wonderful achievement and extend our appreciation to all of CSAAC’s Direct Support Professionals for the extraordinary work they do each and every day.

Today, we mourn the passing of The Honorable Karen S. Montgomery, an extraordinary public servant, devoted advocate, cherished member of the CSAAC Board of Directors, and dear friend to our community.

Karen dedicated her life to serving others, both through her distinguished career in the Maryland House of Delegates and State Senate and through her decades of unwavering commitment to CSAAC. Together with her husband, she was the loving parent of a CSAAC participant, bringing both personal understanding and passionate advocacy to our mission.

Her wisdom, compassion, and steadfast leadership helped shape our organization and touched the lives of countless individuals and families. Karen believed deeply in creating a more inclusive community where every person is valued, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

We are forever grateful for The Honorable Karen S. Montgomery’s remarkable life and the profound difference she made in our community. Her legacy will live on in the people she served, the families she supported, and the organization she helped strengthen.

Our individuals had an amazing time participating in the Montgomery Village Foundation 4th of July Parade! It was wonderful to see everyone dressed in their patriotic red, white, and blue, proudly representing CSAAC while waving to the community throughout the parade route. Their enthusiasm, smiles, and excitement made for a memorable morning.
