Way to go Montevideo Musicians!
We are excited and proud to announce that two of our students have been accepted into the All-State Choir! They had to go through a rigorous and competitive audition process to be accepted. Both Anya Burmeister and Patrick Baukol will be singing in the SATB Mixed Choir during the August All-State Camp this summer and then in Orchestra Hall next February.
Congratulations to these two! 🎉

This post is a bit of a 2 in 1! We have had students represent Montevideo Middle School at two seperate honor bands in the month of April. One was at Windom on April 11th, and the other was in Ortonville on April 25th. Both honor bands were for 1st and 2nd year band musicians so it gave them the opportunity to work with other musicians that are their age level. Students woke up early, traveled to the location and learned four different pieces of music in one morning and performed in the afternoon! Here are some pictures from both honor bands! Way to go Montevideo band musicians!

Students had a pretty cool opportunity presented to them today at the Middle School! The performing group Conjunto Bantú performed some candombe drumming music for our students and even gave them an opportunity to try it themselves! Then, after school, students got to walk out to the sound of the drums.
Candombe is recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. It is an Afro-Uruguayan music and dance tradition developed by Bantu African slaves. It features an intense and vibrant array of drum rhythms, dancers, performers, and more. It is commonly seen in street parades.
Tomás Olivera Chirimini created his group in 1971, and has won a series of awards for his outstanding work as a musician, researcher, lecturer, writer, teacher, sculptor, and disseminator of Afro-Uruguayan traditions. His group was even featured on Got Talent Uruguay! They will performing tonight, Thursday April, 9th, at Java River in downtown Montevideo from 6-8PM!
