The University of Montevallo would like to express sympathy for the Milligan University community following the heartbreaking tragedy experienced by its cycling team. We share a special connection with the Milligan cycling team and grieve alongside students and families of team members. We sincerely hope for continued healing for those who are injured and wish comfort and peace to the entire Milligan community.

We are profoundly shocked and saddened to share that members of our cycling team were in an accident involving a vehicle this morning while cycling in Hampton, TN. Sophomores Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers were killed in this accident. Multiple other Milligan cyclists were also seriously injured and are currently receiving treatment at the Johnson City Medical Center. There are no words to adequately describe this level of loss. Our prayers are with all those impacted by this tragedy. Please keep the Milligan community in your prayers.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory through the evening of Saturday, Aug. 15 with a heat index forecast of 109.

Students, faculty, staff, incoming freshmen and their families should take precautions to protect against heat illness during the process of moving into residence halls and enjoying Welcome Week activities.

Drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated, stay in an air-conditioned room and limit your time outdoors. Schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Contact UMPD at 205-665-6155 if you need assistance and call 911 in the event of an emergency.
