This moment is worth preparing for. I’m happy to answer any questions you might have, you can Visit www.birthchemistry.com for our 2026 class offerings or to schedule a free consultation.

Spring magic is in the air 🌿✨

From tiny noses to wobbly first steps, the children are experiencing the wonder of new life up close and learning gentleness, care, and connection every day. Baby bunnies, quail eggs in the incubator, and our runner ducks Daisy and Poppy are sitting on 15 eggs!

Leaf Print Eggs

🌱Collect small ferns, leaves, or flower petals. Slightly dampen the leaf so it sticks to the egg.

🍀 Place the leaf/flower face-down against the eggshell.

🥚Carefully pull a piece of nylon stocking over the egg, ensuring the leaf doesn’t shift. Pull the nylon very tight to ensure a crisp print and secure it with a twist tie or string.

🧅For natural dye, bring onion skins or beets or red cabbages or hibiscus flowers in water, and 1 tablespoon of vinegar to a boil. Place the wrapped eggs in the pot, simmer for 15-30 minutes, then let them cool in the liquid.

🌈For brighter colors, soak the wrapped eggs in hot water mixed with food coloring and vinegar for 10-20 minutes.

🐰Remove the eggs from the dye and let them dry completely. Once dry, cut the nylon and remove the leaf to reveal the silhouette.

Our spring chalkboard and the little Waldorf verse in the caption are inspired the 1906 book The Story of the Root Children by Sibylle von Olfers:

Under the ground, deep in the earth,
Among the roots of the trees,
The little Root Children were fast asleep
All winter long.

At last it was springtime!
Mother Earth opened the door,
And out into the warm spring sunshine
Came the stately procession of beetles, ladybirds,
And Root Children with their blades of grass and flowers.

Messy sensory play IS the work of childhood. Through slippery sand, squishy mud, and water poured and splashed, the child comes to know the natural world. These moments are critical to the early years. It’s beautiful out today, go outside and make some mud pies and memories 🌊☀️🌷

I was the surprise reader in my daughter’s class last week. She chose a Japanese folktale, The Mountain Pears. I tell this story from memory so I was technically the surprise storyteller. I have always appreciated Waldorf communities protecting the human tradition of storytelling. This tradition invites children to create their own inner pictures rather than relying on illustrations already made for them. There’s a place for picture books, but I also hope parents explore storytelling as well🌷

Waldorf education was born in the shadow of war.

In 1919, just after the devastation of World War I, Austrian philosopher and educator Rudolf Steiner was asked to create a school for the children of workers at the Waldorf-Astoria Cigarette Factory in Stuttgart, Germany. Steiner’s vision went far beyond academics, he believed that education could help heal the divisions that had led to war in the first place.

The first Waldorf School was founded on radical ideas for its time:
• educating boys and girls together
• welcoming children from the working classes
• nurturing the whole human being: head, heart, and hands
• cultivating imagination, empathy, and moral responsibility

I believe this approach to education is an act of peacebuilding and I’m grateful for any opportunity I get to contribute to a more empathetic society.
