Anissa Monteon is running for the Student Council Secretary position for the 2020-21 academic year.

Anissa is a first-year Public Administration degree candidate. She is a proud Californian and she earned a BA in History at the University of California Riverside in 2015. She joined the Peace Corps where she served as an education volunteer in Zambia and as a literacy specialist with a local NGO in Liberia.

Currently, she volunteers at the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Bechtel Education Center as an education host and as a reading volunteer with Monterey County Reads. She also works as an intern at a local non-profit organization called Gathering for Women. She enjoys meeting new people, watching soccer and riding her bike around Monterey.

Elections will open Wednesday, April 22nd at 9 AM and close on Friday, April 24th at 3 PM.

Joshua Lester is running for the Student Council Secretary position for the 2020-21 academic year.

Josh is in the TESOL program and did his BA in Long Beach. There, he was part of a Greek Organization and he lived their values: scholarship and friendship. He came to MIIS for the same reason many of you came here, which is to work diligently in his areas and make what he touches better.
From extensive past experience in his undergrad organization as a corresponding secretary and recording secretary, he is confident that he will disseminate information and record minutes as fairly and as quickly as possible.

Elections will open on Wednesday, April 22nd at 9 AM and close on Friday, April 24th at 3 PM.

Madeleine Smith & Lincoln Ngaboyisonga are running for the Student Council President & Vice-President positions for the 2020-21 academic year.

Their platform:

Our platform will consist of four main initiatives, in no particular order: Advocating for increased student housing efforts, cohesion and collaboration between programs, on-going transparency between the administration and students, and a smooth transition into online learning for the Fall 2020 semester (along with reintegration to in-person learning in the Spring).

Elections will open Wednesday, April 22nd at 9 AM and close on Friday, April 24th at 3 PM.

Gharsanay Amin & Ben Mattern are running for the Student Council President and Vice-President positions for the 2020-21 academic year.

Their platform:


The vision of our team is to bring systematic changes in the ways students are engaged in decision making processes, with clear accountability and transparency mechanisms. We intend to do the following:
Develop a strong network between students, the administration and different departments to respond to student needs about the quality of the courses offered at MIIS
Make structural changes in the ways online classes are taught during the COVID-19 time if/until when it continues.
Advocate for diversifying the faculty
Improve the GSIPM and GSTILE cooperation and cross-program co-creation
Revisit the way weekend workshops/and Sprintensive courses are offered

Elections will open Wednesday, April 22nd at 9 AM and close on Friday, April 24th at 3 PM
