Our 2026 State of Schools Survey found 84% of educators report insufficient resources, staff, and/or training to support special education students.
For too long, school districts across California have underfunded special education, and it directly harms some of our most vulnerable students. It's not a budget problem; it's a choice.
Investment in special education programs and educators is vital to meet the growing needs of our students. We must stand together and demand real change, and educators are already doing it. Here's how: https://www.nea.org/nea-today/all-news-articles/special-ed-caseloads-are-overwhelming

We are making progress in getting our voices heard, but need you. Monterey county healthcare is among the most expensive in all of CA. Our hospitals spend the least on patients, while charging the most. On top of that, having a baby here is 2 and a half times more expensive than the average CA hospital. We need our state leaders to hear from us that we need affordable healthcare NOW. Please use the QR code and prompt to tell your healthcare story!

Success! This is why we have to show up and fight beyond our local issues. We have the ability to affect change for all of public education. It’s not “what is the union doing for me” WE ARE the UNION.
