Daniel Mah - 2026 Rising Star Award

Daniel Mah began his martial arts journey in 2003 under Sifu Manuel Marquez at the Shaolin Temple Kung Fu School in Lomita, California, training primarily in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu and Seven Star Praying Mantis. As an American-born Chinese, kung fu became a bridge to his cultural heritage and a path toward confidence and self-discovery.

At UC Irvine, he joined the Chinese Association Martial Arts (CAMA) demo team, where he met Andy Le and Brian Le, friendships that later sparked the creation of Martial Club, a group blending traditional martial arts spirit with modern cinematic expression. Martial Club has since become a celebrated martial arts filmmaking group, contributing choreography to the Oscar-winning film Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Congratulations to Daniel Mah on this well-deserved honor! 🏆

Lohan School of Shaolin - 2026 President’s Award

Founded in 1994 by Steven Baugh, the Lohan School of Shaolin grew from a handful of students training in his garage into one of Las Vegas’s most respected martial arts schools, teaching Northern Shaolin, Five Family/Five Animal style, Tai Chi Tong Long Praying Mantis, and internal arts including Yang & Chen Tai Chi, Hsing Yi, and Ba Gua. The school remains a cultural pillar in Las Vegas’s Chinatown and has been recognized by UNLV for its historical significance.

Since Steven’s passing in 2019, his son Raul Baugh and fellow Sifus Lance Brazil and Ezekiel Ortega, supported by a dedicated team of senior instructors, students, and parents, carry the school’s legacy forward with demos and Lion Dances throughout the Las Vegas valley, including 56 shows in just six weeks this past Lunar New Year season.

Congratulations to the entire Lohan School of Shaolin family! 🏆

Sifu Eddie Torres trained as a student and assistant instructor under Grandmaster Ark Yuey Wong, carrying forward the authentic teaching of the Five Family/Five Animals style, which also included Chinese herbal medicine and therapeutic massage. He was the Grandmaster’s last closing student and served as his pallbearer. He went on to study Lion Dance under Grandmaster Jeff Chan.

With 50 years in the martial arts world, Sifu Torres is an inductee of the International Chinese Martial Arts Championship’s Hall of Fame, a founding member of TCMAF, and today runs Five Family Kung Fu Academy and Martial Arts Supply in Monterey Park, California, still teaching seminars across the country and abroad.

2026 Lifetime Achievement Award: Curtis Wong

Long before Chinese martial arts had a mainstream voice, Curtis Wong took a chance on it. Working out of his garage with his brother Doug, friends, and students, he founded Inside Kung Fu magazine at a time when existing publications heavily favored Japanese and Korean systems.

Wong broke the mold with dynamic, cinematic covers and staffed his magazine with real martial artists rather than outside writers, giving the publication a unique, authentic voice. He also used his platform to spotlight lesser-known practitioners rather than only established champions, helping give kung fu a mainstream audience and a permanent place in American pop culture.

Congratulations to Curtis Wong on this well-deserved honor! 🏆

The Traditional Chinese Martial Arts Federation was honored to participate in the 20th Anniversary of Dragonfest, presented by the Martial Arts History Museum at the Glendale Civic Auditorium. This milestone celebration brought together Lion Dancing, Taiko Drumming, Okinawan Dancing, and countless other Asian cultural traditions in one unforgettable event, with proceeds supporting the Museum’s ongoing mission to preserve these living legacies for future generations.

Our booth provided an opportunity to engage with the community, share information on the upcoming Golden Dragon Championships, and welcome inquiries from those interested in serving as judges for the event.

Pictured (left to right): Sifu Kevin Leung, Sifu Sing-May Chen, Sifu Fenton Fong, and Sifu Orlando Ayala, TCMAF Board Members representing the Federation at the booth.

We extend our gratitude to the Martial Arts History Museum for hosting another outstanding celebration of Asian culture and martial arts, and to all who visited our booth throughout the event.
