“Dear ELAC Family,
It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Manuel “Manny” Montero, who passed away on May 13, 2026.
For over three decades, Manny dedicated his unique spirit and talent as a full-time Special Services Assistant with DSP&S, retiring in 2024. All who had the privilege of knowing or working alongside him can attest to his extraordinary character; he truly embodied diligence, integrity, and boundless compassion.
Manny’s commitment to DSP&S was legendary. He often expressed that his goal was to work at DSP&S until his last day – refusing to retire despite health challenges.
His favorite on-campus activity was riding around in his wheelchair, spreading smiles and positive energy. Manny changed many lives and inspired many of us. He was the first person to greet students at DSP&S. Countless students have shared how his unwavering optimism and personal example served as a powerful testament to the human spirit, demonstrating that with courage and resilience, one can accomplish the seemingly unimaginable.
We extend our prayers and deepest condolences to the Montero family during this difficult time, as well as to our ELAC family who have been impacted by this loss. Manny will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by his ELAC family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.”
