💙💛 Did You Know? Operational Referendums Across Wisconsin

Operational referendums are not unique to Montello. They are a funding mechanism used by school districts across Wisconsin to seek voter approval for revenue beyond state-imposed limits.

Here are a few statewide figures for 2026:

61 operational referendum questions are reported for the November 3 ballot.

124 operational referendum questions are reported across the April, August, and November elections.

In 2025, 62 operational referendums were reported statewide.

Since 1993, Wisconsin's revenue-limit system has generally required school districts to obtain voter approval to exceed their state-imposed revenue limits.

For Montello, the November 3 operational referendum is part of a broader conversation taking place in school communities throughout Wisconsin about educational costs, available resources, and local funding decisions.

We encourage our community to learn more about the District's financial circumstances, review the referendum information, and make an informed decision.

As we wrap up Wisconsin School Board Week, we have one final Board member to recognize- Mr. Don Lloyd!

There is much more to serving on a school board than attending meetings and making decisions. It means being willing to listen, learn, ask questions, and take on the responsibility of helping guide a school district through both opportunities and challenges.

Don, thank you for the time you dedicate to the Montello School District and for being willing to serve our students, staff, families, and community. Your commitment and service are appreciated!

As we close out this week of recognition, we extend our gratitude to ALL of our Board of Education members for the time, energy, and dedication they bring to our District.

💙💛 Thank you for serving our schools and our community!
