Kindergarten, fifth grade, and eighth grade are BIG milestone years at Crane. We celebrate these at the end of the year with the Kindergarten Celebration of Learning and the long-standing tradition of each kindergartner reciting a poem, the Fifth Grade Promotion Ceremony as they move to the Upper School, and the Eighth Grade Graduation where each graduate is honored with a personalized vignette read aloud by a Staffulty member 💚

Throughout second semester, third graders ventured out into the community to learn about local non-profit organizations! Students visited and met with a variety of organizations including Direct Relief, Showers of Blessings, Meals on Wheels, Bucket Brigade, Channel Islands Restoration, Grace Fisher Foundation, B.U.N.S., Explore Ecology, Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network, Foodbank/Backyard Bounty, and Children's Creative Project. They came away from these experiences excited and inspired to help our community. In fact, they were so moved by what these organizations do for Santa Barbara that they made a special request to the Head of School to allow them to hold a bake sale to raise money for the non-profits. We 💚 how these students acted on our school value, Put We Before Me. 🐾

Kindergarten students explored the origins of the Greek alphabet, practiced writing their names in Greek, and created their own Greek coins. They made their own Greek toga and laurel wreath, and were grateful to have parent guest speakers talk to them about Greece.
This unit stemmed from the professional development trip that Ms. Waid took last summer thanks to the Holsman Grant. Each summer a handful of teachers receive opportunities to travel, learn, and create in new places due to the generosity of individuals and families who have invested in teacher professional development. It is a true gift for the teachers, school, and, most importantly, the students! We are excited to hear about this summer's teacher professional development experiences and to see them play out in the classrooms💚

We're going to miss the Class of 2026! As a K-8 school there is a special bond that forms between students of different ages. Sharing a campus, going to daily Assemblies together, and spending time with Lower/Upper School Buddies all help students make connections and cultivate kindness across grades 💚 These eighth graders have been great role models. Even on the very last day of school - Field Day - they were leading by example for the younger students.
