You may remember Matilda from her treatment days. Today, we get to share a very different picture.

Six months after finishing her final round of cancer treatment, 12-year-old Matilda is now going to checkups every 2 months instead of every month. Life is starting to look a little more normal – and her future is looking brighter. ✨

That future was made possible, in part, by research funded by YOU. 💚

Matilda received breakthrough immunotherapy through a St. Baldrick’s-funded clinical trial, carrying her lifesaving medicine in a backpack 24 hours a day for 28 days while receiving treatment at home and still getting to be a kid. 🙌

When Hannah was 11 years old, she was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), an aggressive and inoperable brainstem tumor. 💔

After beginning treatment, including six weeks of radiation and experimental therapy, Hannah continued to show the compassion and spirit that defined her life. She loved dancing, playing soccer, and the cello, and always cared deeply for those around her. Hannah passed away in May 2001, just 12 days before her 12th birthday. 😢

Before she passed away, Hannah said, “I want to help other kids with cancer.”

In her honor, Hannah’s family created the Hannah Levy Miller Fund, a St. Baldrick’s Hero Fund dedicated to carrying Hannah’s wish forward through childhood cancer research. ✨

Today, the Fund is helping support a $79,000 St. Baldrick’s research grant to Dr. Yang Li, PhD, at WashU Medicine in St. Louis. His research is working to better understand the genetic and epigenetic changes that drive diffuse midline glioma (DMG), a childhood brain tumor for which there are currently no effective treatments. By studying individual tumor cells, Dr. Li and his team hope to identify changes that could reveal new targets for treatment and help pave the way for more effective therapies for children with DMG. ❤️

Through the Hannah Levy Miller Fund, Hannah’s family and community are carrying her legacy forward and helping make her wish a reality — supporting research that could lead to better treatments for children facing cancer.

Meet Squire of Hope, Srikanth. 💚

Srikanth first got involved with St. Baldrick’s in 2019 after learning about how different childhood cancer is from adult cancer and the critical need for research. His first event at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland made the mission even more personal.

Seeing kids at the event reminded him exactly why he was fundraising – and inspired him to keep coming back. ✨

Now, 3 head shaves later, Srikanth continues to raise funds, spread awareness, and encourage others to learn more about childhood cancer.

For Srikanth, it’s more than shaving his head.

“It’s also about raising awareness. I always encourage people to share the message with as many people as possible so we can educate more people about childhood cancers, increase awareness, and ultimately help support the children and families affected by it.” 💛

And yes, he plans to keep the tradition going.

A new research discovery could open the door to better treatments for kids with rare and aggressive cancer.

St. Baldrick’s funded researcher Dr. Noriko Satake and her team identified a promising new protein in rhabdoid tumor for the kidney (RTK). 🙌

In early testing, blocking that protein helped slow tumor growth and improved survival.

It's an early step, but an important one. Because kids with RTK desperately need better treatment options – and research is how we get there. 💚
