Teens Of The Seventies

call the "Teens of The Seventies". Many of us were infused into the community via the U.S. Air Force, as one or more of our parents were enlisted and stationed at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino, Ca. Whenever I get the opportunity to speak to one of my high school friends, or connect via Facebook or email, fond memories of those days are always conjured up in my mind as well as the friend's. After our brief reminisces, our last statement has always been, "Wow, we had a lot of fun, didn't we?" I think it's past the time for all of us to see each other again. Yes, there have been many Eisenhower High School reunions throughout the years; I even attended a few myself. But what I saw was the same thing I saw when I went to our high school dances, very few of us, the black teenagers of Ike High. I don’t believe it was ever that we didn't want to party with our white counterparts, we just had a different taste in music. Our musical heritage was not catered to by the school dance committees. For us, the seventies were all about the FUNK! Soul Train was rocking America out! Parliament, James Brown, The Commadores, Bootsy Collins, Al Green, Marvin Gaye and on and on! We had our house parties. For us it was about Afros & Bellbottoms! Angel Flights and 2 Piece walking Suits, and yes, Platform Shoes. The afro was a symbol of our newly discovered pride in our blackness! Well, many of us have not seen each other in 40 years. I miss all of my friends, don't you? I say let's have a reunion that we have been in need of all of these years. The "Teens of The Seventies Reunion" is not a black thing, it is a soul thing! Anyone who enjoys seventies R&B Soul music is welcome to attend. The theme will be "Afros & Bell Bottoms". My committee and I are planning a Friday night happy hour meet and greet on October 16th, 2015, followed by a seventies theme dinner dance Saturday night on October 17, 2015. We have a live band, with a very special guest, a DJ and there will be prizes for "Best Costume Male, Female & Couple". There will also be a prize in our "Soul Train Line Dance Contest".
