There have been so many times in this business when I’ve just had to shake my head and laugh…but letting my kids order school lunch because, “MOM, they’re having OUR burgers for lunch!” was definitely not one I had on my bingo card, so to speak. 😅🍔
Through the Jersey Fresh Farm to School Program, schools are given resources and opportunities to connect with local farmers and purchase locally grown and raised food.
Through this program, we’ve had the opportunity to work with several schools throughout Salem and Cumberland counties including our alma mater, the school where I was briefly a school nurse, AND the school our boys attend now.
Talk about some pretty cool “full-circle” moments. 🥰
Knowing that kids right here in our own communities are sitting down at lunch and enjoying food raised on local farms is something we’re really proud to be a small part of. It’s an incredible opportunity to support local agriculture while also helping kids make that connection between the food on their plate and the farms around them.
Last week, we were able to take that connection one step further by welcoming representatives from the NJDA Jersey Fresh Farm to School Program, New Jersey Assistant Secretary of Agriculture Joe Atchison, and Salem County Commissioner Cordy Taylor to the farm. We were also joined by research assistants from Rowan University studying regenerative food systems in South Jersey.
It was a quick visit, but a meaningful one. We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share a little bit of what we do here and even more grateful to have been part of a program that puts locally raised food on local students’ plates!
And yes…when our burgers are on the school lunch menu, my kids are absolutely buying lunch that day. 🤭❤️
