In January, we started the semester with a celebration of L’épiphanie by enjoying a delicious Galette des Rois! In France, it’s customary to eat this sweet pastry, which is typically filled with almond cream, to celebrate the arrival of the three kings. The best part? Inside the galette is a fève (a small figurine or charm), and whoever finds it gets to be crowned King or Queen for the day!

Last Tuesday, MCES and SMCC French students embraced the spirit of Mardi Gras in their French classes. They enjoyed pancakes with maple syrup, a delicious French-Canadian tradition! MCES Exploratory French, MCES French I and SMCC French I students also created their own Mardi Gras masked, letting their creativity shine! It was a day full of joy, culture, and tradition!

Day 4, Sunday June 18. We traveled from Paris to Avignon on the TGV (train). We visited the city of Avignon and the Palace of the Popes. Then we toured the Pont du Gard, a former Roman aqueduct. We ended our day in Nîmes and spent some time exploring a Roman Arena.

We ended our evening with a visit to the Basilique du Sacré Cœur to take some time to pray together. When we entered the basilica, we discovered there was a special prayer service and candle light procession in honor of the Virgin Mary. It was so special and moving. So happy the students could experience this! 🙏🙏

Day 3, June 17. Another full day visiting the sights in Paris. A guided tour of the Musée du Louvre, lunch in the Latin quarter, a historical tour of the île de la cité, delicious Berthillon ice-cream, a stop at Notre Dame (still under reconstruction), and dinner with some souvenir shopping in Montmartre.
