📢 NEW YOP REQUIREMENTS: Paid Work Experience & Training Opportunities!

Interested in a Paid Work Experience (PWE), job training, certifications, or other career-related opportunities through YOP? 🎓💼

Moving forward, participants must attend all 7 required workshops before participating in PWE or receiving training and certification support. These workshops are designed to help you build the skills, habits, and professional etiquette needed to succeed in the workplace and in educational settings!

💙 These workshops are available to EVERYONE enrolled in YOP! Even if you're not currently looking for a job, training, or certification opportunity, you're welcome and encouraged to participate. Our goal is for every YOP participant to take advantage of these workshops and the skills they offer. However, attendance is only required for participants pursuing opportunities through YOP.

📍 YOP Workshops with Cara: Wednesdays from 3:30–4:30 PM in the YOP Tutoring/Walk-In Room at MCISD. No registration is needed for Cara’s workshops—just show up! The topic will depend on which youth attend and what they need.

The PWE Workshop with Dorthi will be scheduled as needed when a participant is ready.

🌱 Quality Career Exploration & Planning Workshop with Emily: We'll work together based on your individual needs, whether that's exploring quality career options or creating a step-by-step plan to reach your career goals! Check the monthly YOP schedule for workshop details or contact Emily to schedule a one-on-one session.

📅 Michigan Works! workshop dates are shared monthly on our page, and these workshops take place at the Michigan Works! Monroe American Job Center.

Our Career Exploration Workshop, originally scheduled for Thursday, September 24th from 3:30–5:00 PM, has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a new date in October.

Day looks different for everyone. 💙

Here at the Monroe County Jobs for Michigan's Graduates & Youth Opportunity Program, we wanted to celebrate some of our youth and give them a chance to share the stories behind their “why.”

We also wanted to take beyond the traditional college conversation. College is one pathway, but it certainly isn’t the only one. Young people can pursue their goals through apprenticeships, trade schools, certification programs, on-the-job training, career training programs, and many other post-secondary pathways.

This year, our youth shared some of the careers and pathways they’re working toward, from conservation officer and psychology/criminal justice to asbestos abatement and UA pipe fitter/welder.

Their reasons are just as diverse as their goals. Some are driven by a passion, some want to help others, some enjoy working with their hands, and some are looking for a stable future doing something they genuinely enjoy.

There is no single definition of success, and there is no single path to get there.

We’re proud of our youth for knowing that their future is worth pursuing and for sharing their “why.” 💙

Monroe County Community College Open House & Union Building Trade Apprenticeship Wall Unveiling. If you are interested in an Apprenticeship, come explore the pathway. Tour the different options of how MCCC can be a steppingstone to an Apprenticeship. Are you interested in welding, come try your hand at welding. We will have Pipefitter Apprentices helping the MCCC Welding crew give weld demonstrations.
