I was blessed today. Really interesting happenstance. Well, to clarify, I don't believe in such things, but rather I do believe God puts people, places and things together for a purpose that's not always shown to us. I don't know what this meant, but it was pretty cool!
I get a FB friend request from a name I don't know. He had a ton of mutual friends, however, so I connected. He began asking me about captioning video in Adobe Premiere. Okay. So, I ask him what's up and he clarifies he's the pastor of a church in PA and they've been on cable TV up for for the past 50 years with their rebroadcasts. Recently the stations are asking him to include .srt caption encoded masters and file. He was hoping I could help. Indeed, indeed! I love doing this sort of thing, helping to tutor those in production, but ESPECIALLY those who are using this tech to advance the Kingdom. So, we setup a live session in my virtual TV studio. I went through the process with him, trained him then he shared his screen with me and repeated the process on his end. Took us a bit over an hour, but he nailed it! He asked if we might take a look at other things he could use help with. I said, "Praise the Lord, absopositively!!!" We talked a bit and agreed to do more sessions and record and publish them so that some other folks may benefit from the knowledge we're sharing.
The funny thing about all of this??? Well, I asked him how he found me and why he reached out. He explained he remembered me from my time as a digital media teacher back up in PA. "You started that digital media program up here, right?" Yep. That was me. Taught for almost 13 years then took an early retirement in 2020 and moved to VA. Then he went on to remind me about my studio that I had in my town called The Kinetic. That was a full-service digital broadcast studio that I setup privately to teach at-risk youth digital media, offering them real-life on-the-job training while producing content for our local Education/Government TV channel. I did that for several years, but closed down about 6, maybe 7 years ago. Well, turns out this fellow remembered all of that, and somehow put together to give me a call to help him out. Crazy small world.
What's crazier is the timing of all this, and this goes deep. But I'll summarize. I'm at a serious crossroads in my career path right now. I left teaching completely last year and started my own production company, Red Sea Media, and I produce my own original news, talk, and educational shows as well as content for paying clients. But, deep in my heart, I've had sitting an idea for an educational program that I can offer to people who want to be trained in digital media for the purpose of advancing their faith-based outreach. I actually wrote a curriculum some years ago and tried many times to get it off the ground, to no avail. I've had this vision for many, many years, but never knew how to apply it. Recently, I've been struggling hard with which way I should go in my professional life. I've been praying hard for direction. Out of the blue, God gives me opportunity to be of service to this small church in need, rekindling the fire he put in me some years ago with The Kinetic, all while my commercial work is stuttering. I've been hitting wall after wall after wall in recently weeks, and wondering perhaps I'm misapplying my gifts. I've been praying for direction. This this blast from the past comes and reminds me of so much. Most interesting. Most interesting indeed.
I guess there are a few lessons here, at least for me. Never underestimate the impact you may have on others through your works. And, listen to your heart and to God's prompting. Perhaps I missed my calling when I closed that program many years ago? Maybe this delay was part of His plan? Maybe I'm just overthinking this. I do that a lot. I don't know, but I know this, I'm convinced this was a big wink in my direction, showing me where I should be directing the talents and resources God blessed me with.
