Just because we see ourselves as an ally, doesn’t mean we’ve earned the right to CALL OURSELVES an ally.

Those who are in the spaces being discriminated against – when THEY SEE how you’re showing up as an ally – THEY are the ones who get to give you that role/name.

AND being an ally is so much more than saying, “I’m not racist”. Or “I have black/brown friends”.

It’s about educating yourself about the experience of those being discriminated against. It’s about learning how to dismantle the systems that propagate discrimination. It’s about putting all you thought you knew aside to hear the hard truths.

AND IT’S ABOUT SHOWING THE F@(K UP!

As a white woman, trying to learn more about systemic racism, exploring racial gaslighting was, of course, a no-brainer for me.
