"The Silence Only She Could Hear"

This painting was created by an artist named Sophie, who had lived in silence since the age of three. A severe brain infection stole her hearing, and the world fell mute. No voices, no music, no birdsong. But there were horses.

Her first horse, a white mare named Lyra, became her everything — her friend, her compass, her silent guide in a soundless world. Sophie used to say that horses speak through the heart, and that she could “hear” Lyra through her skin — in the warmth of her breath, the rhythm of her steps, the gentle nuzzle on her cheek.

This painting was created a year after Lyra passed away. Sophie never spoke about the loss — but her heart couldn’t stay silent. So she picked up a brush.

She painted for weeks. Each stroke was not technique, but memory. Each shadow held warmth, each line a touch. The girl in the painting is Sophie. The horse — her Lyra. And that kiss? It's a goodbye. A thank you. A whispered “I still hear you.”

This isn’t just a painting.
It’s a memory made visible. A farewell wrapped in love — louder than sound, deeper than grief.

🧠EQUINE TRIVIA ANSWER🧠 The forehand heavy horse or downhill, butt high “conformation” actually isn’t a conformation at all but a posture from lack of development or dysfunction in the thoracic sling. The downhill horse or a horse whose lumbo-sacral junction is higher than the withers will have pain and lack of mobility in the lumbar spine. Their hind end will not be able to have proper flexion. The neck is sunken in. The TMJ and poll are tense from the downward pressure. And often their stifles and elbows are in pain from having to help hold the body up. The good news is, through proper development and exercise this can be improved! With that improvement results in a lifted and functioning front end which sets the hind end up for better success.
