We've had a busy 2 weeks with the students studying Atoms, Molecules, & Compounds.
They worked hard testing different formulas & ingredients to make the compound: Toothpaste.
As good scientist always do: they tested & retested, collaborated, researched, documented data that worked & didn't work until they found the right formula that was ready. Then they flavored it.
Mint, Strawberry, Cinnamon, and Lemon were their top flavors.
Great Job, Students, on making your own Toothpaste!
If a store doesn't have it, JW Brown Students can make it!!

Not only are the students learning to research, but they're also working on citing their sources.
Also, find the article that one student brought in. It's a very good read.
"How Experts Figure What to Focus On" by James Clear
Keep up the good work, Students!
This week the students learned about Density.
Look at the Lava Lamps in which they made.
They learned that water is more dense than oil and why the rubber duck floats on water.

Whether on the playground, in the cafeteria or classroom, School Bonds are Important!
Some of the most lasting friendships develop at school. We don't want the transition from one school to another to break those bonds.

As we work to strengthen students' ability to read, we recognize that comprehension skills are evenly as important.
After reading their story this week, I put a little spin to their test-which is used to check for
comprehension.
Rather than giving them questions that were prepared by the book's author, I had each student formulate 10 questions that they found answered in the story. I then used their questions to form their test.
Some of the questions were: What was the Tone & Mood of the Story?; Identify and Describe in detail the Protagonist & Antagonist.; When the businessman arrived on time, as predicted, explain the behaviors of the men who accompanied him.
I found that this approach allowed the students to truly think about what the author had presented & not just retell a story they had read. Their questions showed how each of them engaged with the story & its message.
Great questions, Students! Now lets put these answers on paper in your own words!
