We’ve been putting a lot of work behind the scenes into our Windows Forensics Examiner (WFE) and Advanced Windows 11 Forensic Exploitation (AWFE) courses, and I’m really excited about what’s coming next!

Windows continues to evolve, and so does digital forensics. We’re continually updating our courses to reflect new technologies, emerging sources of digital evidence, and the investigative techniques examiners need to stay ahead.

These updates will make our already in-depth courses even more relevant to today’s digital forensic examiner, including expanded analysis of AI artifacts and a deeper dive into the core forensic evidence created through everyday interactions with Windows systems.

There’s plenty more happening behind the scenes, and we’ll be sharing more soon! 👀

Our Windows Forensics courses have been updated!

Windows isn't standing still, and neither are we.

We've extensively updated both our Windows Forensic Examiner (WFE) and Advanced Windows 11 Forensic Exploitation (AWFE) courses with the latest artifacts, techniques, datasets, and forensic workflows.

The updated courses take a deep dive into some of the areas investigators need to understand today, including:

🔹 AI Forensic Artifacts
🔹 OneDrive Forensics
🔹 BitLocker Analysis & Exploitation
🔹 Helium Data Analysis
🔹 New and evolving Windows 11 artifacts
🔹 Advanced artifact recovery and analysis
🔹 And many more forensic opportunities hidden within modern Windows systems

WFE provides the foundation for a comprehensive Windows forensic examination, while AWFE takes investigators further into advanced Windows 11 exploitation and forensic analysis.

We've put a strong emphasis on what matters to today's examiner, not simply teaching old artifacts that have been covered for years.

If you're responsible for Windows forensic examinations, these courses are designed to give you the knowledge and practical experience needed to investigate modern Windows systems and the artifacts they leave behind.

Think database forensics is just SQLite? Think again.

Modern applications store evidence across a wide range of database technologies, and understanding how those databases work can make the difference between finding critical evidence and missing it entirely.

Our Advanced Applied Database Forensics course is designed for digital forensic examiners who want to go beyond automated tool output and develop a deeper understanding of the databases that power today's applications.

Throughout this hands-on course, students explore:

✔ SQLite internals and B-tree structures
✔ Deleted records, freelists, and overflow pages
✔ Rollback Journals and Write-Ahead Logs (WAL)
✔ Transaction analysis and database reconstruction
✔ LevelDB, IndexedDB, Realm, and other modern database technologies

But this course isn't just about learning database structures—it's about understanding why the data exists, where it came from, and how to recover evidence that forensic tools may not display.

Whether you're investigating mobile devices, Windows systems, messaging applications, web browsers, or other application-based evidence, you'll gain the knowledge and confidence to validate forensic tool output, examine unsupported databases, and recover valuable historical and deleted data.

At Spyder Forensics Training, we believe investigators should understand the evidence, not simply accept what a forensic tool reports.

If you're ready to take your database forensic skills to the next level, we'd love to see you on an upcoming course.

We're continuing to enhance our Advanced Windows Forensic Exploitation (AWFE) course with new techniques and workflows designed to address the challenges faced by today's forensic examiners.

One of the latest additions is an expanded BitLocker module that now includes practical workflows for leveraging YellowKey, a powerful exploit that can assist examiners in obtaining access to the System Volume Recovery Key when a drive is protected and locked by BitLocker.

As encryption continues to play a critical role in modern investigations, understanding both the theory and practical application of these advanced techniques is becoming increasingly important for forensic practitioners.

This update is just one of many exciting enhancements currently being added to the AWFE course. We're committed to ensuring students leave with the latest knowledge, tools, and methodologies needed to tackle real-world Windows forensic challenges.

More updates coming soon.

Over the past 12 months, the demand for robust, defensible Drone and UxS forensic capability has grown exponentially. Investigators are no longer dealing with simple hobbyist UAVs or isolated flight log extraction cases, they are facing complex, multi-platform ecosystems spanning aircraft, controllers, mobile devices, and cloud-connected applications.

Spyder Forensics has risen to that challenge by developing the most advanced UxS Forensics training programme available today. This goes far beyond basic log extraction or surface-level analysis. Our Advanced Drone Forensics Analysis course delivers a deep, structured approach to the entire UxS ecosystem, covering aircraft systems, controller data, mobile applications, and cross-device artefact correlation.

A key focus of the programme is real investigative capability, not just data extraction. Students learn how to interpret flight behaviour, reconstruct operational intent, and correlate evidence across multiple sources using methodologies designed for real-world forensic examinations.

In parallel, Spyder Forensics has also developed dedicated tooling specifically built for Drone Examiners by Drone Examiners, ensuring the workflows taught in training are directly aligned with operational investigative needs.

To support this mission further, we have also established a dedicated UxS Forensics group focused on advancing training, research, tooling, and examiner support, pushing capability in this space to the next level.

The future of UxS investigation is not single-source analysis. It is full ecosystem reconstruction, and that is exactly what we are building.

We had an amazing time at Techno Security East this year and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to present on AI Forensics, talk on UxS (Drone) Forensics, and the latest updates to our AWFE (Advanced Windows 11 Forensic Exploitation) course.

One of the highlights of the week was reconnecting with so many colleagues and friends from across the digital forensics community, while also meeting a large number of new examiners who made the journey back to Myrtle Beach. The conversations, questions, and knowledge sharing throughout the event were truly inspiring.

A sincere thank you to everyone who attended the sessions, stopped by the Spyder Forensics Training booth, and took the time to discuss current challenges, emerging technologies, and the future of digital investigations. Events like these serve as a great reminder of how strong and collaborative our community continues to be.

We are already looking forward to continuing many of the conversations that started this week and to seeing everyone again at future events.

It has been an incredible week of training with a highly engaged group of students and some outstanding discussions throughout the course.

What I enjoyed most was being able to move far beyond simple UAV log extraction and flight mapping. Together, we exploited several different drone platforms and examined each system from a true forensic perspective, focusing on the potential evidential value that could be recovered from both the aircraft and supporting ecosystems.

One of the highlights for me was working through real-time analysis of payload deployment data recovered from the latest custom-built drone extractions. Seeing students connect the technical artifacts to real investigative value is exactly why I enjoy teaching these courses.

We also spent considerable time diving into the ground-based controller applications, including decrypting application logs to reveal valuable artifacts such as battery serial numbers, controller serial numbers, account information, and geo-spatial data that are often overlooked during many examinations.

All of this was performed using the tools provided complimentary to attendees of the course, allowing students to immediately apply these techniques to real-world investigations once they return to their organizations.

The SFT Drone Log Review application has also undergone significant updates recently, and I’m excited about the additional features and capabilities that will be introduced over the coming weeks. The goal continues to be providing examiners with practical, affordable, and truly forensic-focused tooling for Drone and UxV investigations.

A huge thank you to all the students for the excellent engagement and conversations throughout the week.
