Our Scot of the Week is Aimee Miller ’15! 🎉 Aimee is an Instructor of Communication and Director of Forensics (Speech and Debate) at Ferris State University.

👥 Who made an impact on you at Monmouth and how?
I was influenced by so many professors that it’s hard to choose just one! Everyone in both the Communication Department and the English Department had a lasting impact on me. However, if I was pressed to answer, I would go outside my departments and name Marsha Dopheide. She encouraged me to pursue my research interests and convinced me that I had something worth saying.

🤩 What is the coolest thing you’ve done in your career?
I moved to Nagoya, Japan for two and a half years. I spent that time teaching English, traveling, learning, and exploring. It was a formative time of my life and I got to try so many new things!

💭 Do you have a favorite Monmouth Memory?
I participated in Moot Court my junior and senior years. I loved it so much that it has become a fond memory for me. My senior year in particular was fun – all of the competitors had a really great attitude, and the debate was lively, energetic, and fun.

6 of our Communication Studies / PR majors traveled to Greece with 11 other MC students to study Classical Rhetoric over winter break. We talked about the sophists, read Isocrates’ and Gorgias’ speeches, and re-enacted excerpts from Agamemnon all while situated in beautiful Greece. We walked where Socrates walked, learned a Greek dance, ran on the first Olympic track, ate a lot of gyros, and experienced the hospitality that is infused within Greek culture. Very grateful to Monmouth College Classics Dept. Chair Bob Simmons for his leadership and the Global Scots program for supporting this trip.

17 Monmouth College students, 3 faculty members (from Classics, Comm Studies, and Educational Studies), and six faculty members' children (not pictured) are about to board their flight from Chicago to PARIS, en route to nine days in GREECE! Congrats to Alum Ethan Hager

Proud of our PR alum Emily Sheppard and her impressive professional portfolio! And Congrats to Emily and Alex on their growing family!

Our Scots Sweethearts this week are Alex and Emily Sheppard, both graduating with the class of 2016. ❤️

"We met at Monmouth College our Sophomore year in our Marketing class. Alex played football and I played basketball and softball. We got married in July of 2018 and we have a son, Ryan, who will be 2 in June and identical twin girls due this summer.

Alex and I both work for the Department of Defense as Contract Specialists under the Army Contracting Command at the Rock Island Arsenal. In our career, we solicit, award and administer contracts that support the warfighter, while being good stewards of the taxpayers’ dollar. It’s extremely rewarding that what we do everyday directly helps soldiers and our country.

Our favorite Monmouth College tradition would be Scots Day! During our time at Monmouth, Scots Day was kickstarted with the sound of bagpipes blasting throughout the dorms at the crack of dawn. Then the day was spent preparing for scholars presentations, playing in the softball intramural tournament, and end of year scholastic awards. Scots Day always ended with everyone hanging in the quad celebrating being Scots!

Our favorite Monmouth Memory would be all the people we met and the relationships we were able to build during our 4 years at Monmouth. Whether that was relationships with coaches, advisors, professors or just peers, we are blessed to still have these friendships today! Our core group of friends that we had at Monmouth still get together multiple times a year to celebrate holidays, weddings, and life milestones."
