Our Panhellenic and Interfraternity Councils recently held Candle Passes to recognize their graduating members! Panhel regularly holds Candle Passes for new and graduating members, but this was a first in recent history for our IFC men.

It was a great way to promote unity among our fraternity and sorority members and celebrate our graduating members for their accomplishments during their Monmouth College career.

This was such an incredible and touching dedication ceremony that our campus community had the privilege to participate in.

Priscilla (for whom the memorial arbor is named) was a member of Kappa Delta, as was her sister-in-law, Judith Williams Trubeck ‘69. Priscilla’s husband, Dave, and her brother (and Judith’s husband), Bill, are both members of Tau Kappa Epsilon.

Who knows, maybe our current undergraduates will even use this beautiful space to lavalier, pin, or sweetheart their significant others similar to Dave and Priscilla and Bill and Judith during their time on campus!

We wanted to recognize the fact that at Monmouth’s Honors Convocation this past Tuesday, all four freshman and senior men and women of the year were Greek-affiliated! Looking at our records, we don’t believe this has happened since 2016.

Congratulations to the following students:
Freshman Man of the Year - Payton Crims of Zeta Beta Tau
Freshman Woman of the Year - Natalie Morrow of Alpha Xi Delta
Senior Man of the Year - Eli Kelly of Sigma Phi Epsilon
Senior Woman of the Year - Lillian Hucke of Pi Beta Phi

Eli was student teaching during the Honors Convocation, but there’s a great photo of the other three. We are incredibly proud of our fraternity and sorority students!

Happy Founders Day to the women of Alpha Xi Delta!

Alpha Xi Delta was founded on April 17, 1893 at Lombard College in Galesburg, IL. Ten women shared a vision and a dream of a national organization dedicated to the personal growth of young women. Since then, Alpha Xi Delta has helped many realize their potential by providing opportunities for sisterhood, leadership, knowledge, and service. Alpha Xi has grown into a strong organization consisting of more than 162,000 initiated members.

Alpha Xi's vision is "Inspiring women to realize their potential," and their open motto is "The Pen is Mightier Than the Sword."

The Beta Epsilon chapter of Alpha Xi Delta at Monmouth College was active from 1932-1978, returning to campus during the 1997-98 academic year. This recolonization also marked the return of Alpha Xi to the state of Illinois.

We hope that everyone able to donate considers doing so! We’ve connected to the Wild West theme of Greek Week next week, so there will also be some fun props for photos for anyone who donates!

Join the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life in wishing the men of Phi Delta Theta a Happy Founders Day! While they were founded on December 26th, the fraternity believed that date to be too close to the holidays for a convenient annual celebration. Therefore, the fraternity celebrates its Founders Day on March 15th, the birthday of one its founding members, Robert Morrison.

On December 26, 1848, Phi Delta Theta was founded at Miami University by six undergraduate students: Robert Morrison, John McMillan Wilson, Robert Thompson Drake, John Wolfe Lindley, Ardivan Walker Rodgers, and Andrew Watts Rogers, who are collectively known as The Immortal Six. Its mission states that the fraternity was organized for "the cultivation of friendship among its members, the acquirement individually of a high degree of mental culture, and the attainment personally of a high standard of morality."

Phi Delt's open motto, "Eis aner oudeis aner," translates to, "One man is no man." More freely interpreted, it means, "We enjoy life by the help and society of others."

Phi Delta Theta originally existed on Monmouth's campus from 1871-1884. The Illinois Gamma chapter was re-colonized in March of 2008, with the colony officially receiving its charter from the national organization on November 15, 2008.

For more information about Phi Delta Theta, visit: https://phideltatheta.org

Happy Founders Celebration Day to the Brothers of Phi Delta Theta! Although their actual Founders Day is on December 26th, they celebrate on March 15th in honor of the original Bond No. 1, Robert Morrison, on his birthday!

As members of Fraternity and Sorority Life spend spring break at home or on trips with their teams and organizations, temperatures continue to rise on campus and flowers begin to bloom. Since it’s starting to feel like spring, we wanted to take a moment to show off each chapter’s official flower(s)! Each was chosen for reasons specific to each organization, and some can even be found in the chapters’ official crests!

We hope everyone is having an incredible spring break; Monmouth’s beautiful and picturesque campus will be waiting for you when you return!

Please join the Monmouth College Fraternity and Sorority Life community in congratulating our newest inductees/initiates into Order of Omega fraternity/sorority honor society!

Our Spring 2024 class is made up of 4 individuals from 3 chapters, and the average GPA of these new members is 3.44.

The qualifications for membership in Order of Omega include character, scholarship, service, and leadership. These 4 women certainly display these characteristics, representing their individual chapters and their college well.

A big thank you to Marnie Steach for coming to talk with our IFC men and Panhel women about their resumes and also all the services offered in the ACE (Academic and Career Excellence)! We love having a network of content experts on campus to rely on for tips and tricks!

Men's College Scholarship 02/19/2024

If you know any young men applying to a four-year institution (including Monmouth College) for the fall of 2024, encourage them to check out the 2024 Men’s College Scholarship from the Foundation for Fraternal Excellence (FFE)! Funded by inter/national fraternities, the purpose of this scholarship is to encourage young men to attend college and achieve academic success.

The scholarship is designed to identify and reward outstanding high school seniors who have demonstrated an ability to excel in the fields of academics, extra-curricular school activities and community involvement. While this scholarship could certainly help a young man fund his fraternity membership, future membership in a fraternity is not a requirement for applying for this scholarship.

The only requirements for application are:
-Must be a graduating high school senior in the United States
-Must identify as male
-Must have access to a U.S. bank account (for direct fund deposit if selected)

The scholarship application deadline is Monday, April 1. Check out the following link for more information:

Hello, everyone! It’s been some time since this page has been active, so we’d like to reintroduce each chapter on campus so you can get to know the vibe/culture of each of our organizations!

If you haven’t been on campus recently and are curious about the groups we have, Monmouth is currently home to four fraternities, three sororities, two governing councils, and one Greek honor society.

We will soon be sharing information about each chapter president so you can get to know our current undergrads better as well!
