Recently The Stewart House Museum hosted nearly 100 YMCA day-campers (K-5) who learned about life in the 19th Century.

While indoors, Director Mary Osborne described what it was like to be a kid - listening to the piano instead of Spotify. Seeing the world through a stereoscopic viewer instead of a tv. Wearing a corset and dress instead of shorts and tshirt. Sitting in the parlor and talking instead of texting.

Outside, Archivist Kylie Smith showed them how to play croquet, coits (ring toss), graces (stick and hoop toss), bilboquet (cup and ball), and pick up sticks.

The campers seemed grateful that the offered snack was modern popsicles and not some of the savory Victorian “treats” like aspic that were described in the dining room.
