This week we learned about persistence of vision! đź‘€

Our eyes hold onto an image for just a tiny moment after it’s gone. When images change quickly enough, our brains blend them together, making separate images appear as one moving picture.

So naturally, we had to put it to the test!

We had such a wonderful time celebrating America’s 250th anniversary with so many amazing homeschooling families!
♥️🤍💙

Together we learned a brand-new word—semiquincentennial—and discovered how classical education helps us understand the meaning of words by studying their roots.

Semiquincentennial comes from several Latin roots:
đź“– Semi = half
đź“– Quin = five
đź“– Cent = hundred
đź“– Ann = year

Put together, semiquincentennial literally means “half of five hundred years,” or 250 years! It was such a fun way to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding while seeing how understanding Latin roots unlocks the meaning of so many English words.

We also raised our voices as we sang songs about the founding of our nation, explored how God’s hand has been faithfully woven throughout history, and discussed why remembering the past is so important. One of our favorite moments was signing our very own Declaration of Independence!

Thank you to everyone who came and spent part of your day with us. We loved meeting new families, reconnecting with familiar faces, and sharing a glimpse of what Classical Conversations is all about. We hope you left encouraged and excited about the homeschool journey!
