🌟 Meet Our New Health Occupations Instructor Claudia Cruz! 🩺💙

We are excited to welcome Mrs. Cruz as our new Health Occupations Level 1 Instructor at Scott Regional Technology Center!

Mrs.Cruz is a Registered Nurse with over 8 years of experience in the medical field, bringing a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience to our Health Occupations program.

Most of her nursing experience has been in pediatrics and long-term care, along with experience in postpartum, NICU, and adult medical-surgical nursing.

Mrs. Cruz spent approximately 6 years working in Pediatrics at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, where she gained valuable experience caring for children and families. Her extensive long-term care experience has also given her a strong foundation in patient care, CNA skills, teamwork, communication, and caring for patients with a wide variety of needs and abilities.

Now, she is excited to bring her real-world nursing experience into the classroom and help prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals. ❤️

We are thrilled to have Claudia Cruz join the Scott Regional Technology Center Health Occupations family and can't wait to see the impact she will have on our students!

With Recognition Night coming up, we’re excited to celebrate an incredible achievement our Health Occupations Level II 2026 students are the first class ever to earn a 100% pass rate on their phlebotomy exam! Every single student passed on their first attempt, and we couldn’t be more proud of their hard work and dedication.

We also want to highlight our recent Family & Friends Stick Nights, where we had over 85 volunteers show up to support our Health Occupations students. Your time and encouragement made a huge impact!

A special shoutout to Crowder College nursing students, our past Health Occupations students, and our friends at Lacoba Homes for volunteering and continuing to support our program. We truly appreciate the amazing community that has rallied around us this year thank you for being part of our success!

Don’t forget to join us in celebrating these students’ accomplishments at the Health Occupations Recognition Night on May 7th at 7 PM. We hope to see you there!

Our first Teddy Bear Clinic was a success! 🧸

We had such a great time with Monett Preschool, teaching our new little friends how to care for their “patients.” From check-ups to lots of smiles, it was an unforgettable experience.

Health Occ 2 had an amazing day at Healthcare Career Day! We explored so many areas, from respiratory therapy to legal cases in healthcare. We even got to meet a trained hospital dog 🐾

One of the highlights was practicing emergency medical services skills—learning how to stop bleeding and refreshing our CPR skills from Health Occupations I. We also got a glimpse into a day in the life of a NICU nurse and experienced incredible virtual simulations, including how a major virus spreads and exploring inside the human body.

Thank you to Cox Health for hosting such an engaging and educational experience!

Two of our Health Occupations students had an incredible opportunity to shadow in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab)! 🫀

They were able to observe physicians as they performed procedures used to diagnose and treat cardiac and vascular conditions. From watching how the care team works together to seeing the technology used to evaluate heart health, it was an amazing hands-on learning experience.

Opportunities like this give our students a real look into the medical field and help them explore the many career paths within healthcare. We are so proud of them for taking advantage of this experience and continuing to learn more about caring for patients and saving lives! 👏

Here’s how we break it down like future EKG techs:

1️⃣ Find the rate
2️⃣ Decide if the rhythm is regular or irregular
3️⃣ Check the P waves
4️⃣ Measure the PR interval
5️⃣ Measure the QRS complex
6️⃣ Identify the rhythm

We are step closer to reading rhythms like pros!
