This week's Cooperative Challenge (home edition): Use Stop and Stay Cool.
Life can be frustrating at times, especially when you're stuck in the house. When you feel yourself getting overwhelmed (remember the Feelings Thermometer), stop🛑, take a deep breath🌬, and stay cool🧘♂️! Give yourself a Chilly hug🐧 and remind yourself that everything will be okay.
When we are able to remain calm🧘♀️, we are less likely to get into riffs and arguments with our family and friends. If we all remember to stop and stay cool, our homes will be more peaceful ☮️
🥪Meal pick-up time change!⌚️

This week's Cooperative Challenge (home edition): Use a win-win solution.
When you are stuck in the house with your siblings, you might end up in conflict. Maybe you both want to play with the same toy or game, or maybe you are arguing over who gets to use the sink first. Instead of arguing or fighting, try a win-win solution, like taking turns, flipping a coin to see who goes first, or playing with the toy or game together.
If you use this strategy this week, post about it in the comments.
Have a great week, Moneta Bees!

Student medication pick-up at MNES
Friday 3/27 from 9am-12pm
In light of the announcement for school closures through the end of the year, we want to make medication and medical care supplies from school clinics available for parent pick-up. The school clinics will be open on Thursday, March 26, 2020 and Friday, March 27, 2020 from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm. The School Nurse will be available to disperse your child's medication or supplies and this can be picked up by a parent or any individual on your child's emergency contact list. if this date/time poses a hardship, you may email you School Principal or call 540-586-1045 and enter '0' immediately when the message begins to speak with a school representative or leave a message. School staff will follow up upon receipt of message.
Please share to get the word out!
Beginning Tuesday, March 24, 2020, we will be expanding our meal service!
We will maintain the original nine school sites for curbside, “Grab-N-Go”, pickup and begin distribution along elementary bus routes. Beginning Tuesday, March 24, you can meet a bus or other vehicle making lunch and breakfast deliveries to elementary bus stops in your area. Please be 10 minutes early to the stop. Route schedules with estimated times are posted on the BCPS webpage at bedford.sharpschool.net under Division News. Meals are for children age 18 and younger regardless of income level. Meal distribution will continue through March 27, and our current plan is to continue it if the school closure is extended past this week. Distribution sites and schedules may be modified in the future based on participation and other factors.
Meals will be available for distribution Monday through Friday 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the front entrance of the following schools:
Bedford Elementary School
Liberty High School
Montvale Elementary School
Boonsboro Elementary School
Jefferson Forest High School
New London Academy
Goodview Elementary School
Huddleston Elementary School
Staunton River Middle School
Please Note: Children MUST be present to receive meals, and we ask those receiving meals to remain in their vehicles in order to speed distribution. (Due to federal nutrition regulations, we are prohibited from distributing meals without children being present at the pickup location.). Additionally, the locations listed above may be adjusted in the future based on participation and other factors.
BCPS had a great start last week in distributing meals during the school closure. We served over 6,000 meals to over 3,000 children from nine school feeding sites across the county.
I have seen some great suggestions for schedules kids can follow while schools are closed. I don't want to suggest a specific schedule, as each family has unique needs.
Here are some recommended time allotments for elementary aged children, so you can create a schedule that works for your family:
Suggested reading time: 20 minutes per day
Suggested writing time: 10-20 minutes depending on age and ability (write about what they read, write letters to family members, give them a story starter and have them write creatively)
Suggested math time: 20 minutes per day with a variety of activities
Suggestions for physical activity and wellness: 2.5 hours
It would also be good to consider time for art, music, and cleaning, as well as quiet time and screen-free time.
In need of internet access?
Bedford County Public Libraries just announced they have expanded and strengthened their WiFi signals to reach their parking lots so you can access the internet while practicing social distancing!
Also, Comcast is offering free home internet for two months to new qualifying customers. Email [email protected] for the link if you are interested.
