We had so much fun learning about birds the last few weeks- from watching a bird build a nest to dissecting an owl pellet there was something new to discover each day. We ended our unit with a lesson from The Sermon on the Mount- God cares for the birds and all His creation, so we do not need to worry 💕

The children are potting strawberry runners. We have studied plants a lot this year- from the pumpkin life cycle in the fall, various trees in the winter, and flowers and veggies this spring. They have the basics down- seed, soil, water, sun 👍 so now we expand- how else can plants grow?

We’ve looked at succulents- we are observing a succulent root from a broken leaf.

We’ve noticed our berry bushes putting off new plants 🧐

Potatoes are growing from potatoes 😮

And today the children potted strawberry runners. We observed how the plant puts off a shoot and if you put it in soil as new plant will grow.

It’s my opinion that children should spend a nearly unreasonable amount of time outdoors in the spring. Preferably barefoot.

🖐️ Little hands, BIG work! 🖐️

Montessori curriculum has a huge focus on the development of the hand. Dr. Montessori said, “What the hand does, the mind remembers.” I have noticed this to be true for myself and have also observed it in children.

Children have a deep need to manipulate objects, connecting physical experiences to their learning. You know this is true if you have ever taken a toddler or a preschooler to a store or to a non- childproofed home! It seems as though they need to touch everything!

Offering activities to support this need strengthens both the hand and the mind! This prepares them for writing, builds confidence, concentration, and helps them retain information and concepts.

Another bonus? Busy hands don’t hit. By offering a wide variety of hands on work to children they naturally gravitate towards these activities, and they use their hands for good, and not for harm. Practical life activities, pre-handwriting work, art, play dough, sensory work… these types activities are an easy and effective classroom management tool.

We did it!

We packed up 12 boxes with love for chidlren around the world. Each box was prayed over and stuffed with joy!
