George Washington Elementary School

George Washington Elementary School George Washington Elementary School is a suburban K-5 public school located in Mohegan Lake, New York in the northwest corner of Westchester County.

In Lakeland’s five elementary schools (Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Lincoln-Titus, Thomas Jefferson and Van Cortlandtville), small classes give students a solid start to lifelong learning beginning with a full-day kindergarten program. The schools provide a standards-based core curriculum at every grade level, grounded in solid pedagogy, and differentiated for a diverse student body.

We are so proud of our GW Alumni!

Congratulations to seniors Justine Tang and Sean Kowatch, who have been named Semifinalists in the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program!

This recognition places Justine and Sean among the top high school students in the nation based on their outstanding academic achievement and performance on the PSAT/NMSQT. They now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships in 2026.

“We are incredibly proud of Justine and Sean,” said Principal Chris Cummings. “Their dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence exemplify the values of Lakeland. We’re excited to see all that they will accomplish in the future.” 🌟

The Lakeland Central School District celebrates this significant achievement and is proud of all our students’ accomplishments. We look forward to supporting Justine and Sean as they advance in the competition and to continuing to highlight the outstanding work happening across our schools.

To kick off the week, the Phyllis Rose Dance Company showcased traditional African dance, music and folklore and their influence on American Pop Culture. Our students learned so much and really enjoyed the show!
