A New Pathway to Hope in Elk Grove

🌟 A dream became reality as xHope celebrated the grand opening of its new Pathways of Hope Enrichment Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Elk Grove, California.

The new center will serve vulnerable youth and families throughout the Sacramento region by providing mentorship, education, life skills training, resources, and a welcoming space where meaningful relationships can grow. As CEO and Co-Founder Wendi Cross shared, the facility is "more than four walls." It is a place where families can gather, receive support, build skills, and access the resources they need to break the cycle of poverty and prevent homelessness. 💙

🌟 Making a Difference in Our Community! At Reed Family Companies, we believe in the power of giving back. Our Reed Service Day allows employees to dedicate time to local non-profits, and recently, our VSS International, Inc. team—Rick Cross, Mike Harrison, and Will Cross—helped XHOPElocal, Inc. relocate to a larger space, enabling them to better serve vulnerable children in the Sacramento area.

This new 4,500 sq. ft. facility will provide essential resources and support for families in need. Additionally, our Operation Shoebox campaign successfully collected 87 pairs of shoes for xHope, showcasing our team's dedication to community involvement. Reed Family Companies has been recognized by the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) as a recipient of the 2025 Community Involvement Award, part of NAPA's Operational Excellence Awards program.

The award recognizes organizations that make a lasting impact in the communities they serve through strong community relations and employee involvement. One of the initiatives highlighted in the award was our annual Touch-A-Truck event, held in partnership with the Modesto Chamber of Commerce. The event gives local families and children the opportunity to explore construction equipment up close, meet industry professionals, and learn more about careers in construction.

🌟 A New Group of Interns Joins Reed Family Companies! We’re excited to welcome our 2026 interns to Reed Family Companies as they begin their journey with us through our annual Intern Roadshow. 🚧👷‍♂️👷‍♀️

Over two days, interns traveled across Central California visiting 7/11 Materials, VSS International, Inc., George Reed Inc, and VSS Macropaver at Reed International. Along the way, they experienced everything from active construction projects to manufacturing and materials production.

🛣️Day One: In the Field and at the Plant

The tour kicked off in West Modesto, CA, where interns visited a George Reed Inc. paving project and saw our crews in action. From there, they headed to the 711 Materials Stockton Ready Mix Plant to learn how concrete is produced and how our aggregate mining operations support projects across the region.

The day continued in West Sacramento at VSS International, Inc., where interns:
• Toured the plant 🏭
• Explored the QC lab 🔬
• Learned about emulsions and slurry systems used in pavement preservation

The evening wrapped up with dinner in Modesto 🍽️, giving interns the chance to connect with team members from across RFC. 🤝

Day Two: Manufacturing and Mining 🛠️

Day two began in Hickman, CA, at the VSS Macropaver facility. Interns toured the shop and learned what goes into building our equipment, from CNC machining to welding. 🔧⚡

🪨 The final stop was George Reed Inc.’s Table Mountain Aggregate Plant in Sonora, CA. After lunch, interns toured the QC lab and gained a deeper understanding of our mining operations, including witnessing a live blast. 💥

Sharing a few highlights from this year’s American Graffiti Parade as it rolled through Modesto, led by Jeff Reed, CEO of Reed Family Companies. The event also featured City of Modesto - City Hall Councilmembers Modesto City Council Member Nick Bavaro (District 4), Council Member Eric E. Alvarez (District 2), Vice Mayor Jeremiah Williams, and local radio legends Don Sainte-Johnn, Greg Edwards, and Bob Malik from Legend 105.9 FM.
