@ Downey HS listening to student acts rehearse for the tournament of talent today at 5:30 pm in the auditorium. Students will compete for a trophy and cash prize.
The schools with the most student body in attendance will earn a TV for their school. Also, during the event students can win gift cards! This is a free event open to the community.

SCOE is sponsoring a Poetry/Writing Art Contest for Stanislaus County students, and winners of the contest will become published authors/artists in SCOE's "Kids on Civility" book and have a chance to win prizes. Congratulations to Vickie Rocha, a SCOE employee who was honored yesterday at the “Employees Making a Difference” program. Vickie was the first recipient of the Jane Johnston Civility Award for exemplifying the principles of civility at her school site. Congratulations Vickie! She is pictured here with SCOE Superintendent Tom Changnon and Education Foundation Chair Carol Benson.

We are deeply saddened to learn of this morning's horrific mass shooting of young children and adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Our heartfelt prayers go out to the community, families and our fellow educators who have been tragically impacted by this event.
