Our goal at Port City Academy is not to imitate the public school system or prepare children to fit into it. We’re different…on purpose.

We exist to offer a DIFFERENT kind of learning.

One that values curiosity over compliance, growth over grades, and real-world skills over rigid pacing guides. We believe children learn best when they are given the space to explore, ask questions, solve problems, and take ownership of their learning.

In our environment, education looks like hands-on experiences, meaningful conversations, life skills, critical thinking, creativity, and learning at a pace that honors each child. We focus on building confident, capable humans who know how to think, adapt, collaborate, and care — not just how to pass a test.

At our microschool, children learn by doing. We believe the best learning happens through hands-on experiences, meaningful projects, and real-life skills that build confidence and independence. Students are encouraged to explore, ask questions, create, and grow at their own pace in a supportive, small-group environment.

Our children deserve more than standards… they deserve a childhood that inspires them.
Sometimes we get so focused on what the school system says a child “should” be doing that we forget to look at the child right in front of us.

Children grow when we let them:
• Learn through curiosity.
• Build real life skills that shape who they become.
• Feel safe, supported, and seen for who they truly are.

There is nothing more powerful than watching a child discover something on their own — that light in their eyes, that excitement, that pride. No test score will ever measure that.

Let’s raise kids who feel confident, capable, and grounded…
not because they fit a system,
but because they were allowed to grow and learn in their own way.

“O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good!”

Yesterday was extra special as our students hosted their very own Thanksgiving feast! From preparing the meal to decorating the space and setting the tables, they poured heart and creativity into every detail.

It was wonderful to see our school community come together…students, families, and friends sharing good food, laughter, and gratitude. Moments like these remind us how much we have to be thankful for!

Wishing you all a blessed Thanksgiving full of reminders of God’s goodness!

Our marshmallow shooter build wasn’t just for fun—it was real, hands-on learning! As learners measured pieces, used tools safely, and experimented with how to get the strongest burst of air based on the design they chose, they were practicing problem-solving, engineering, and teamwork.

What looks like simple play to us is actually learning in action—designed to build confidence, curiosity, and a love for making things work.
