Our September ROOTS focus is KINDNESS! ❤️

Throughout the month, students will explore how small acts of kindness can make a big difference. We’re challenging every Austin Innovator to Choose Kindness through their words, actions, and everyday choices—at school, at home, and in our community.

We will also celebrate “ROOTS to KINDNESS” Week, September 21–25—a special week set aside to help our Austin Innovators understand the importance of showing kindness, standing up for others, and helping our school be a warm and welcoming place for all to learn and grow.

At the end of the month, we will recognize students selected by their teachers as our ROOTS Students of the Month for Kindness. We can’t wait to see kindness on display all month long!

Join us on Tuesday, September 8, from 5:30 PM–6:30 PM for a great opportunity for parents and guardians to come see what has been happening since the school year began! 🏫✨

🌱 Celebrating our August ROOTS Students of the Month!

This year, our ROOTS to SUCCESS program is shining a spotlight on a different character skill each month. Our August focus was RESPECT — The way we treat each other matters.

Today, we celebrated students who were selected by their teachers for demonstrating respect throughout the month. Our honorees were recognized on the Morning Buzz, received their certificates, and gathered for a special group photo! ❤️💙

They’re also taking home a little “happy mail” today—a special letter sharing exactly why their teacher nominated them for this recognition. We hope our students are as proud of themselves as we are of them!

🔬 Forces & Motion in Action! 🏌️‍♂️

Our 4th grade scientists are putting their learning into motion! Students took part in hands-on experiments using a golf ball and a table tennis ball to investigate how mass affects the rate at which objects fall.

As they experimented, students collected evidence and used their observations to explain the relationship between an object’s speed and energy. We love seeing our students think like scientists—asking questions, making observations, collecting evidence, and using what they discover to explain how the world around them works! 🚀🔍

🌟 Please Help Us Welcome Our Newest Staff Member! 🌟

We are so excited to welcome our newest team member, Ms. Smith, to the Austin family! We are thrilled to have her joining our staff and look forward to all the wonderful things she will bring to our school community.

From Ms. Smith, "My name is Lily Smith, your new Resource Para and I am so excited to learn with you all this school year! I'm currently a student at Bishop State Community College on my way to receiving my degree in Elementary Education. My dream since I was a little girl has been to become a teacher that creates a safe and inclusive space for all children. Learning is one of my biggest passions and I look forward to having the opportunity to ignite that passion in every student I meet. My biggest inspiration is probably Miss Frizzle. I love all things fun, wacky, and colorful. I have 3 kitties who I love very much, Pretzel, Bug, and Skippy Jon Jones! When I'm not in the classroom, you can find me in the library or surrounded by art supplies, I love all things creating and learning!"
