Our Yellow Jackets are shining in the classroom!

This year, 113 sophomores — 75.8% of the class — were recognized as PreACT Rising Stars based on their performance on the PreACT last spring.

Of those students, 10 were named Distinguished Scholars for scoring in the top 3%, 22 were named Rising Scholars for scoring in the top 4–10%, and 81 were named Early Scholars for scoring in the top 11–50%.

These results are worth celebrating, and we know these Yellow Jackets are just getting started!

Our Yellow Jackets are shining in the classroom!

Meet Charlie Heinz ’27!

Charlie serves as Student Body President and is a member of the Aquinas Program, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, Red Shoe Krewe, and our Varsity Basketball team.

In the classroom, Charlie especially enjoys math and art — his work was even featured in last year’s Ingenium, McT’s literary and arts magazine. After McT, he plans to attend a four-year university on a pre-med track with the goal of becoming a pediatric surgeon.

Whether he’s on the court, in the classroom, or cheering on his fellow Yellow Jackets, Charlie knows it’s great to be a Yellow Jacket!

There’s something extra special about welcoming a Yellow Jacket to the team.

We are blessed to have Fr. Patrick Gilbreath ’11 back at McGill-Toolen Catholic, this time as our school Chaplain!

Ordained in 2019, Fr. Gilbreath has spent the past seven years serving the Church, most recently as Vocations Director for the Archdiocese of Mobile. At the heart of his priesthood is a desire to help others encounter Christ, especially through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

“I love to see people be healed by Christ,” he shared.

Now, Fr. Gilbreath is back in the halls he once walked as a student, celebrating the sacraments, serving our students and families, and helping lead our school community closer to Christ.

There was no escaping this chemistry lesson!

Yellow Jackets in Honors Chemistry recently put their knowledge to the test with an escape room-style lab designed to prepare them for an assessment on lab safety and equipment.

Working together, students put their lab safety and equipment knowledge to work as they tackled each challenge. Who says test prep has to stay at a desk?

Before the school year even started, our Guidance team and the Class of 2027 were already ahead of the game!

Seniors gathered in our computer labs for College Application Day, an opportunity for Yellow Jackets planning to continue their education after graduation to get a head start on college applications, ask questions, and receive one-on-one support from Guidance Department Chair Mrs. Brown and Guidance Counselor Mrs. Evans.
