🚗🏗️ 4th Grade Engineers Rising to the Challenge! 🏗️🚗
Miss Lapointe’s 4th graders put their creativity and problem-solving skills to work with a fun classroom engineering challenge: Use Play-Doh to design and build a structure strong enough to hold a toy car! 🚘💪
Students worked through the Engineering Design Process as they planned, built, tested, and improved their structures. With every attempt, they discovered that great designs sometimes take a little rethinking and redesigning! 💡
These Council Comets proved that learning comes to life when students are given the chance to create, test, problem-solve, and try again! ☄️❤️

🧽💦 Soak It Up, 2nd Grade! 💦🧽
Our 2nd grade scientists were soaking up some science in the STEM Lab this week! 🔬✨ Students investigated absorbency by testing three different materials—aluminum foil, paper towels, and sponges—to discover which could soak up the most liquid.
They made observations, compared their results, and then ranked the materials from least absorbent to most absorbent. 📊💧
Hands-on testing + curious minds = learning that sticks! ❤️☄️

🏌️‍♀️🎳🏎️ Ready, Set…FORCE!
Hear us out…teach 4th graders about FORCE & MOTION—but make it FUN and relatable! 🤩
Our 4th grade scientists were putting, bowling, racing, and even hopscotching their way through the STEM Lab this week! At each rotation station, students investigated how changing the amount of force applied to an object affects its motion and distance traveled.
🏌️ Putt-Putt
🎳 Bowling
🏎️ Ramps & Cars
👟 Hopscotch
But it wasn't just play! Students made observations, measured distances, compared trials, and collected real data to discover the science behind what they were seeing.
Because sometimes the best way to understand science is to MOVE, TEST, MEASURE & DISCOVER! 💡
☄️ Council Comets are putting science in motion!

💫 Once a Comet, Always a Comet!
Our entire Council Comet Family extends a heartfelt THANK YOU to Mrs. Danella Thomas & Family for the generous donation to our school! 💙☄️
This gift is especially meaningful because Mrs. Thomas is a former Council teacher who continues to pour into the school and students she once served. Her generosity is a beautiful reminder that the Comet spirit lasts long after you leave the classroom!
Thank you, Thomas Family, for continuing to believe in and support our Council Comets! 💙☄️

Council Thanks Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church for Continued Support
Council Traditional School is grateful for the continued generosity of the Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church Youth Department. Their ongoing support has provided our school with much-needed supplies, including paper towels, disinfecting wipes, and hand sanitizer. These thoughtful donations help us keep our school clean, healthy, and ready for learning.
We would also like to recognize Jaxson Smith, a fourth-grade student at Council, who is a member of Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church and has helped support the church’s efforts to collect donations for our school. We are so proud of Jaxson for helping make a difference in his school community.

Council's faculty kicked off the year with the MCPSS Learning Launch, collaborating and strengthening instructional practices focused on Learning Intentions and Success Criteria to make learning clear, meaningful, and purposeful for every student. This year’s theme, “The Man in the Mirror,” reminds us that education is about more than what students learn—it’s also about how they see themselves. Every day, our teachers and staff are committed to helping our Comets look in the mirror and see someone who is capable, confident, valued, and able to achieve anything they set their minds to. ☄️💙 And as educators, we’re looking in the mirror, too—reflecting, growing, and giving our best so our students can become their best.
When our Comets look in the mirror, we want them to see POSSIBILITY. We want them to see POTENTIAL. We want them to see “A CHALLENGE AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE.”
