The same conditions that have been producing fog along the Gulf Coast can also cause some other weather-related mischief. An atmospheric inversion can cause radar beams to bend back down to the ground, showing 'rain' that is actually just trees and buildings. This phenomenon is known as 'ducting', seen in the animation over Cape San Blas, FL.

Have your mornings been a bit foggy this week? Ours too. Why? Radiation inversions. Calm, clear nights can allow the ground to cool, resulting in warmer air higher up. This traps the cold air below- seen in temp/RH data at 2ft, 2m, 5m, and 10m above ground!

You may have noticed it was a bit chilly in the south the last couple nights. It got down just below freezing for most of our area- but our Castleberry station hit 20.99°F early yesterday morning!
