From Early Childhood Education Instructor Sara Coleman,

"Happy Early Childhood Thursday! ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š

I am so thankful for our Bishop State Early Childhood students and educators. They are such a joy to teach and learn with. We completed our second lab day this semester and we were so grateful for our little guest and faculty who joined us. We had a great time learning through play. Being able to observe these learners in our ECE learning lab has been extremely rewarding. Implementing developmental appropriate practices through a variety of activities for all types of learners is what we aim to do. We were so thankful and appreciative of Dr. Tenbergen ( Dean of CTE Programs) and Victoria Taylor( Early College Specialist). They and their little ones joined and engaged in an evening of learning through play with our Early Childhood students and little guest. One of our little guest even read us a story in English that was written Spanish, two of three languages she speak fluently. See pics below๐Ÿ˜"

It's such a rich opportunity for our students to explore Mobile history. Every semester, Dr. Smith, one of our History Instructors, takes his students to tour the GM&O Railroad Terminal.

The history: The Gulf Mobile & Ohio railroad system began routing from Mobile, AL in 1907. In 1975, the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The railroad discontinued use of the building in 1986 and in 2001, the Lathan Company restored the historic train station.

Our Music program has been busy busy! From Mr. Willie Williams, our choir and theatre director, leading our partnership with LeFlore High School, to the college fair at Steinway & Sons, to their first public appearance at St. James Major Catholic Parish's Fall Festival while still getting acclimated to their new space. The Humanities at Bishop State have certainly expanded beyond the classroom!

It's one thing to say you're going to support your students, but it's something entirely different when you have a group of faculty and staff who come together to intentionally create strategies and actions towards improving student connections and success!

Over the next few years, we have made a commitment to empower how our faculty and staff to curate an established pathway for students to reach success through the Guided Pathways model, the GPS (Guided Pathways for Success).

There's power in the resurgence of Bishop State and our folks aren't playing about it!

This week is National Teacher Appreciation Week which includes college faculty. Our Faculty consists of almost 150 individuals who are, full-time, adjunct, and dual enrollment educators, dedicated to the advancement of education through our students. We are proud of their efforts, their accomplishments, and their wins!

They've experienced over 1200 hours, collectively, during the past school year in professional development. They currently lead several campus and community committees and organizations producing stellar student opportunities. This year, they've hosted over 2,000 high school and middle school students on our campus. They've had over 20 proposals accepted for conference and meeting presentations with colleges, universities, and organizations across the country during the 2023-2024 year. They've stood up new program offerings in our high schools and for our college and are going into the next year ready to continue in excellence!

Faculty, you are appreciated, Happy National Teacher Appreciation Week!
