Aside from the fact that reading helps fuel the imagination, it’s still hard to understand how writers who don’t read would expect others to read their books.

This shouldn’t be a controversial take. Writing and reading shouldn’t be separated. It’s like an artist studying other paintings and learning the different types of strokes that can be used to bring beauty to their art.

For writers, reading helps us learn how to relay the raw ideas in our head >>>

That last question took me out. But really, as a part panster, I agree to always keep in check, especially with timelines.

Looking to connect with fellow poets and strengthen your craft? Join the MAC Pack Poetry Group this Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the Murphy Fine Arts Building on the beautiful Spring Hill College campus.

Whether you're an experienced poet or just beginning to explore creative writing, MAC Pack offers a welcoming space to share your work, receive feedback, and grow alongside a community of writers.

This month's session will be led by Ejemhen Asia Hines, who will explore the Harlem Renaissance and the connection between Southern front porch storytelling and one of the most influential literary movements in American history.

Come for the poetry, stay for the conversation, and leave inspired. We hope to see you there.

Why dread the horror of back-to-school when you could celebrate with us and ADAM CESARE at The Haunted Book Shop on August 25th?! 🔪🤡👻

This is your chance to meet Adam Cesare, author of the wildly popular horror series CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD, and have him sign your copy of Lights! Camera! Frendo! After the signing, Adam and select ticket holders will head down the street to the Crescent Theater for a special screening of the slasher film Clown in a Cornfield, followed by a Q&A with Adam. Only 95 screening tickets are available, so if you snooze on this invitation you will face the horror of a “sold out” banner.

The fun officially starts at 5:30PM at The Haunted Book Shop, but Alchemy Tavern will start slinging their Adam Cesare-themed cocktails earlier that afternoon to get you in a festive mood. There’s nothing scary about an Alchemy cocktail.

Ready for all the jump scares and suspense of Adam Cesare and Clown in a Cornfield? Grab your ticket today. A paid, advance ticket is required for entry to the event. In the ticket ordering section, you will have your choice of ticket level for this event.

🎟️ There will be three ticket types for this event:

1st tier - Book & Signing Line only (Includes book)
2nd tier - Movie & Q&A only (does not include book)
3rd tier - Book, Signing Line, & Movie & Q&A (includes book)

Check out our eventbrite page for more details 🔪🤡👻

Bookish Crawl! 📚✍🏻

PAGES & PLACES CRAWL ANNOUNCED
A new literary-themed event is planned for downtown and midtown Mobile this fall, bringing together bookstores, coffee shops, breweries and other local businesses for a citywide “bookish crawl.”

“Pages & Places: A Mobile Bookish Crawl” is scheduled for Sept. 19 and is being organized as a daylong event encouraging participants to visit a variety of local businesses around Mobile with a literary focus.

According to organizers, the crawl will feature participating bookstores, coffee shops, bakeries, breweries and other locally owned businesses offering themed experiences, specials and activities tied to reading and book culture.

Several businesses have already signed on to participate, including Reney's Honey Butter, The Haunted Book Shop, Oyster City Mobile, Mobile Bookseller and Love and Adventure Studios LLC.

Organizers said additional participating locations, giveaways, exclusive specials and event details will be announced in the coming weeks.

Businesses interested in joining the crawl are still being sought. Organizers said coffee shops, bakeries, bookstores and other “bookish businesses” are encouraged to participate.
