๐ Hey everyone! My name is Jeremy.
This spring, I interned with the Vessel Operations team at APM Terminals in Mobile. As a senior supply chain and logistics management major at the Mitchell College of Business, getting this level of hands-on experience was invaluable. My days (and nights!) were filled with vessel inspections, operational coordination and learning the vital logistics that keep a major terminal moving.
A few highlights from my time on the team:
๐น Cross-Functional Exposure: I got to see how everything works by spending time with gate, yard, rail, maintenance, procurement and client services teams.
๐น Tech Rollouts: I assisted with the rollout of a new gate software system, helping communicate process changes to truck drivers and resolve appointment issues.
๐น Shipboard Coordination: I worked directly with first mates onboard vessels to verify critical cargo lashing and securing procedures.
๐ข ๐ฆ My biggest takeaway? In a fast-paced environment like terminal operations, seamless communication across teams directly impacts safety and efficiency.
Shoutout to the Mitchell College for including a required internship as part of our curriculum that pushes us to gain true field experience before graduation.
And a special thank you to everyone at APM Terminals for a phenomenal experience that has only fueled my passion for global supply chain and logistics.
This summer, Iโll be gaining even more experience in terminal operations through an internship with Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Stay tuned!

The final project for MKT381, Professional Selling and Sales Management, required students to manage a full sales cycle, from building qualified prospect lists and executing multichannel outreach to navigating live negotiations with business professionals. To culminate the experience, students delivered their formal pitches at TopGolf, providing a realistic environment to demonstrate their sponsorship models and executive presence.
"This project allowed students to bolster their professional portfolios with measurable outcomes in pipeline development and revenue generation," said instructor Logan Barrett. "In a competitive job market where employers prioritize applied experience, these students can now demonstrate exactly how they utilized sales tactics to drive results."
This hands-on approach defines the Mitchell College of Business' commitment to producing sales professionals who are ready to drive results on day one of their careers.
