Former (Freshman ‘25), Putnam Harris, has been working diligently this week with the support of other former Explorers to begin his Eagle Scout Project to improve the aesthetic of the cupola (interior) of the Barton Dome!
“Priming” is complete, and Putnam (and team) will soon begin a special mural that truly brings a full circle moment - bringing “history to life.”

The Mobile County Commission is launching its America 250 celebration with a Youth Civic Reflection Contest, inviting Mobile County students to answer the question: “250 Years Later, What Does Freedom Mean to You Today?”
The contest is open to Mobile County students enrolled in grades K-12. Students may submit a photo or short reel with a 250-word caption or an original piece of artwork. Entries should be sent to [email protected].
Entries will be accepted June 1-22, with winners notified June 25 and invited to present their submissions at Government Plaza. The contest is the first of several events planned by the Mobile County Commission as part of the nationwide America 250 commemoration in 2026.

Exciting news! We recently partnered with the Central Gulf Coast Disc Golf Association (CGCDGA) to bring Disc Golf to Barton Academy with a goal of introducing students to the sport!
A special thank you to the owners of Royal Pharmacy and Saraland Pharmacy, Jonathan and Kelly Stinson, who have donated 100 putter discs and 2 ultra premium outdoor level baskets (a value of $2,500.00), and to Dustin, Cole, and Sean from CGCDGA who brought and presented the materials to our students!

After nearly 27 years serving students in the Mobile County Public School System, Mrs. Yvette Renee Nicholson is retiring. Mrs. Nicholson spent the past five years teaching various science courses, STEM electives, driving a bus for extracurriculars, and supporting our athletic programs .
Congratulations to Mrs. Nicholson! Help us wish her well as she begins her new journey! We love you, Mrs. Nicholson!! 💙

During this week’s teacher work days we came together as a faculty, welcoming some of our new additions, to get a head start on PBL planning for 2026-2027 and to finalize our semester long work to create “The Architecture of the Barton Learner”. The professionalism and creativity of this faculty is a bright light, illuminating the best there is in education.
Our are in for another trailblazing year as they carry the torch into 2026-2027 and continue lighting the way !

We are proud to welcome Mrs. Shanna Wilkins as our new Physical Education Paraprofessional!
Mrs. Wilkins brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to student growth, with nearly a decade of service supporting learners at Saraland Middle and current experience in physical education at the elementary level. Her background reflects a strong ability to connect with students, provide individualized support, and create structured, engaging environments where all students can succeed.
With strengths in relationship building, differentiated support, and student engagement, Mrs. Wilkins is known for fostering positive interactions while helping students develop confidence, teamwork, and essential motor skills. Her recognition as Support Staff of the Year (2020) speaks to the lasting impact she has made on both students and colleagues. We look forward to the energy, care, and dedication she will bring to our students each day!
