The excitement was palpable in downtown Mobile this morning as Barton Academy celebrated our annual PBL Launch & Order Reveal!

Students counted down to the unveiling of our 2026–2027 PBL banners, with a very special guest joining us, Barton Academy’s founding principal, Dr. Amanda Jones!

And then the celebration began! Confetti cannons, powder cannons, streamers, beads, music, and torch clappers made Government Street feel a little like Mardi Gras this morning!

Our new Barton students also experienced one of our favorite traditions as they discovered which Order, Viridis, Kien Tri, Akoni, or Mauvila, they will call home.

After the Launch, students returned to homeroom to create their own individual torches, each one representing the unique spark they bring to Barton. Together, those individual flames represent something much bigger: one Barton, carrying the torch forward.

PBL Launch & Order Reveal Tomorrow!

The banners are in place on the third-story balcony, ready to be unfurled. The Order bracelets are tucked into envelopes for the big reveal. The students are all nestled in their beds…but are they? Anticipation is building for tomorrow’s annual PBL Launch & Order Reveal!

What to Wear: Students in grades 7–9 are encouraged to wear their Order colors and may wear their signed Order shirts from last year with regular bottoms. Sixth-grade students may wear Barton spirit wear with regular bottoms.

What to Bring: After the Launch, students will return to homeroom to create their own individual flame. Bring pictures, drawings, words, symbols, or small lightweight objects that represent YOU, your interests, talents, passions, personality, or goals. We’ll provide the flame template!

Everything is ready The only thing missing is our Explorers.

Explorer Electives are in full swing at Barton!

These unique electives give our students the opportunity to step outside their regular academic schedule, explore new interests, discover new talents, and simply try something new. From creative arts and athletics to service, leadership, culinary skills, filmmaking, and more, there’s something for every Explorer.

It’s another way we encourage our students to be curious, take chances, and discover what sparks their interests. We can’t wait to see where they go from here!

Dr. Mary Alice Pouilot was invited to present at the state PD for New Librarians, sharing the heart behind our Barton Book Tastings. She highlighted how PBL themes guide book selections, how tastings boost reading for enjoyment, and how partnerships with culinary programs bring stories to life—connecting students to culinary arts and entrepreneurship.

The Lady Explorers are still undefeated and absolutely blazing the way! 💙🏐
Barton swept Denton Magnet School in three straight games — 25–14, 25–8, 25–14 — a clean sweep from start to finish. These girls showed grit, teamwork, and determination on the court.

Proud of our Lady Explorers for continuing to set the standard and keep that undefeated streak alive. Keep blazing the way!
