The CCP Program adopts a Scientist-Practitioner philosophy of training, i.e. This approach emphasizes the need for students to be BOTH clinical researchers as well as clinical practitioners, e.g. psychotherapists and psychological assessors. In addition to the Scientist-Practitioner philosophy, the CCP program adopts the Combined-Integrated (CI) philosophy of training.

CCP alumnus and Research Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing, Dr. Candice Selwyn was a guest on the Sincerely, South podcast to talk about the HEART Project. This project is funded by a federal grant and provides advocacy and support services for victims of sexual and gender discrimination and violence on campus, as well as having helped develop a sexual assault nurse examiner program on campus.

Doctoral students in South’s clinical and counseling psychology Ph.D. program recently attended the 2023 Walk to End Alzheimer's event at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park. Organized by the Alzheimer's Association, the Walk to End Alzheimer's is the world's largest fundraiser for Alzheimer's care, support and research.

Congratulations to CCP Doctoral Student Callie Mims. Callie will spend the 2024-2025 academic year at Yale School of Medicine completing a predoctoral clinical training experience in Eating and Weight Disorders. This is a competitively selected position to work with some of the nation’s leading experts in the assessment and treatment of eating and weight-related disorders. We are very proud of Callie and excited for this great opportunity.

Congratulations to Dr. Laura Powell and Dr. Lisa Turner on winning 2022-23 College of Arts and Sciences Excellence awards.
Dr. Laura Powell won the Excellence in Academic Advising Award. Dr. Powell is a sought after advisor in the department and has bridged the gap between advising and what to do after college with her Careers for Psychology Majors course. She has served the department as an academic coach advising hundreds of Psychology majors who were struggling with degree progress, career plans, or juggling commitments. She is currently the graduate coordinator of the Behavioral and Brain Sciences Masters in Psychology program.
Dr. Lisa Turner won the Teaching Excellence Award. Dr. Turner has developed a Research Methods course which majors and minors find not only a great learning experience but fun. She is the departmental practicum director providing students with hands on learning experiences outside the classroom. She is a sought after mentor by undergraduate and graduate students. Dr. Turner also teaches developmental psychology at the undergraduate and graduate level.
The Psychology Department is proud to have them as faculty and representing our department.

Mr. Ivan Campbell represented the University of South Alabama Psychology Department and the Clinical and Counseling Psychology Doctoral Program by winning the National Academy of Neuropsychology Poster Award this fall. Mr. Campbell is a 2nd year graduate student in the Hill neuropsychology lab, and his poster is entitled,"Analysis of Frontoparietal Network White Matter Tract Connectivity and Executive Functioning and Working Memory Scores in a Diverse Sample."
