The Department of Chemistry, the ACS Mobile local section and the ACS Student Chapter at USA organized and hosted the "ACS Program-in-a-Box presents Picture Perfect Chemistry" evening event on 10/23/2024! The ACS Mobile Local Section sponsored a pizza dinner for the participants and the University of South Alabama ACS Students Affiliates Club who had come up with the idea to and were all engaged in the Box virtual event. With pizza and good company, the group (15 participants) competed in the ACS online quizzes! We all learned a lot!
The ACS local section also met with Dr McCall's students of the Mobile Barton Academy to discuss how chemistry and biology often come together to study how cells work, and how these sciences contribute to the advances in medicine.

This summer, the South Alabama faculty is excited to host six high school students through the ACS funded PROJECTSEED (https://www.acs.org/education/students/highschool/seed.html). For eight weeks, these high school students will be working in the laboratory alongside scientists to conduct research in green chemistry, biochemistry, crystallography, medicinal chemistry, biology, and system biology. Dr J. Audia, Dr G. Borchert, Dr J. Davies, Dr M. Migaud, Dr S. Ni Chadhain, and Dr. Prakash are hosting these students!
We thank the teachers from McIntosch High School, UMS Wright, Ocean Springs High School, and ASMS who have helped the students through the application process and prepared them for this opportunity!

Dear Chemistry Teachers, unfortunately, due to a low number of reservations, the science cafe scheduled for tonight has been cancelled. We will send out an invitation again for one in late March. No worries, we will continue to seek to get to know all chemistry teachers and build a community. Upcoming in March: Project SEED. Keep your eyes open, we will contact you via email.
