Tonight was our annual Title I Meeting and Open House. We appreciate all of the parents that came out to support and learn important information and develop and understanding of the structure of your child’s academic day. YOU ALL ROCK!

Students with Mrs. Knowles are learning about the heart! First and second-graders are exploring the heart muscle and how it beats at rest and during exercise. These scientists observed that the heartbeat speeds up after exerting energy.

Third, fourth, and fifth-grade students are getting an introduction or refresher on simple closed circuits. They started by labeling the parts of a light bulb before creating the circuit. These scientists and engineers were working on investigating and solving problems through circuits!

Fifth grade PACE students are “Celebrating the Wonders of Nature” on an exciting excursion to the New Orleans Audubon Zoo and Aquarium accompanied by Mrs. Jackson.

To culminate the first day of school, Mrs. Robinson’s students made predictions about the story “First Day Jitters”. As they listened to the story, they confirmed or revised their predictions based on new information from the text. After reading, students reflected on their own first-day experiences by writing about how they felt throughout the day. To end the day on a sweet note, the students enjoyed delicious Jitter Juice and snacks together. It was a fun and engaging way to celebrate a wonderful first day of learning!

Kindergarten and fifth-grade STEM classes are off to a great start with Mrs. Knowles. The smallest transformers started the year in the STEM lab learning about STEM Bins and working as a team.

Fifth grade kicked off the year with team-building exercises in the STEM Lab, where patience and communication were key!

A MESSAGE FROM SUPERINTENDENT CHRESAL D. THREADGILL

Welcome to the 2026-27 school year!

As superintendent of Mobile County Public Schools, I can say without hesitation that the 2025-26 school year was what we can proudly call a “winning season” for . We raised our state report card score to an 83/B, and we saw significant student growth at all levels – elementary, middle and high school.

Now, as we begin our new season, I wanted to let each of you know that our plan as is to continue to put in the hard work and to continue to improve.

I saw that dedication in action already on Monday as I visited several campuses for the first day of school. I saw students, dressed sharply in their uniforms and carrying their new backpacks, eager to learn. I saw teachers in their freshly decorated classrooms engaging their students in meaningful lessons. I saw cafeteria workers preparing lunch with precision and care and custodians beaming with pride when I told them how clean and welcoming their schools looked.

Were there kinks? Of course. There always are on the first day. But what impressed me was seeing school employees who were willing to go the extra mile to solve whatever issue came their way.

Our success is 100% due to the hard work of each and every member of . That includes employees, parents, students and community stakeholders. As the excitement that surrounds the first day of school fades, let’s all continue to do our part and that is successful, with as our theme for the 2026-27 school year.

So, bus drivers, that students are transported safely every day. Cafeteria workers, that students have a tasty, filling breakfast and lunch. Teachers and paraprofessionals, that students love to learn and make academic progress. Custodians, that students study in a clean, healthy environment. Office staff, that your school runs smoothly with top-notch customer service. Administrators, that your school is managed effectively, and student success is the top priority. Parents, that students attend school every day, prepared to learn. Central Office employees, that schools feel supported and well-resourced.

And students, I am not forgetting your critical role in this process! You are the #1 reason we are here. There would be no without you! So, that you are personally successful. Come to school focused on learning, focused on making good choices, and focused on making your school community the best it can be. You play the primary role in your future success. We ALL love to see you succeed, and we are ALL here to help you.

I’ll close with good advice for all of us – someone smiles today.

What better way to kick off 3rd grade than with a little First Day Jitters! Today in Ms. Hatcher’s class she read “First Day Jitters”, and discussed with her students how everyone can feel a little nervous about new beginnings—even teachers!

Then came the fun part… JITTER JUICE! Students mixed up the special juice to make those first-day jitters disappear! Judging by those smiles, I think it worked!
