Welcome to MACC, R1SE students!

Yesterday, new students at MACC-Columbia had the opportunity to tour campus, meet faculty and staff, explore learning technology platforms, connect with fellow students, and make sure they have everything they need to start the semester strong. They even got to have lunch with the MACC President Dr. Todd Martin.

R1SE is all about helping first-generation students feel welcomed, supported, and confident as they begin their college journey. At MACC, we’re committed to creating an approachable, unintimidating environment where students can ask questions, build connections, and discover that they belong here.

National Aviation Day is taking on a special meaning at MACC this year!

For the first time, MACC is celebrating National Aviation Day as home to a new Aviation Commercial Pilot Program—and we couldn’t be more excited to be part of the celebration.

Observed each year on August 19, National Aviation Day recognizes the history, development and achievements of aviation and honors the people who have helped advance flight in the United States. The date also commemorates the birthday of Orville Wright, one half of the Wright brothers, whose pioneering work helped launch powered flight.

This year, we’re celebrating by looking ahead. Our inaugural class of 16 Commercial Pilot students is beginning their journey toward careers in the skies right here in Mid-Missouri at Columbia Regional Airport - FlyCOU , with flight training provided through our valued partner, ATD Flight Systems.

Together, MACC and ATD Flight Systems are giving students the opportunity to pair college coursework with professional flight training as they work toward their commercial pilot careers.

Here’s to the students preparing to take flight, the instructors helping them get there, and the exciting future of aviation in our region!

Welcome to the inaugural class of MACC’s Commercial Aviation Pilot program! We’re excited to welcome 16 students who are already getting immersed in their future—even before classes officially begin.

During orientation, students got a firsthand preview of what’s ahead, including flight simulation, aviation communications, flight planning and more.

The journey to the cockpit starts here, and we can’t wait to see where this first class takes us! Welcome to MACC, future pilots!

✈️ MACC Takes Flight with New Aviation Commercial Pilot Program

MACC and the City of Columbia celebrated the ribbon cutting for MACC’s new Aviation Commercial Pilot Training Center at the former Columbia Regional Airport terminal—marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the space and for aviation education in our region.

What was once a vacant terminal is now a launchpad for the next generation of commercial pilots. The inaugural class of 16 students will begin training this fall, combining college coursework with hands-on flight training through MACC’s partnership with ATD Flight Systems.

This celebration represents so much more than a new program. It’s a strong partnership between MACC and the City of Columbia, a renewed purpose for a familiar community space, and a new pathway for students pursuing careers in aviation. 🚀✈️

We’re proud to see this vision take flight—and even more excited to see where our students go from here!
