Mastering traffic pattern procedures is essential for safe and efficient arrivals at non-towered airports, providing a standardized flow of aircraft within the terminal area, enhancing predictability in a potentially hazardous environment. Join us as we delve into the intricacies of traffic patterns, transforming the once perilous rectangular course into a streamlined pathway to successful landings.

Upwind Leg (500-700ft AGL): Depart the runway and ascend to 500-700 feet above ground level (AGL). This phase offers a panoramic view of the airstrip and surroundings, enabling you to assess conditions and chart a successful approach.

Crosswind Leg (700-900ft AGL): Transition smoothly from the upwind leg, maintaining 700-900 feet AGL. Here, refine your heading and position, preparing for the critical downwind leg.

Downwind Leg (Established at TPA - 1000ft AGL): Descend to pattern altitude, usually 1000 feet above airport elevation, and establish on the downwind leg. This segment parallels the runway, providing stability in the dynamic environment.

Base Leg: Initiate a controlled descent from pattern altitude to 500-600 feet AGL. Adjust throttle and configuration, preparing for the transition to final approach.

Final Approach: Align precisely with the extended runway centerline, maintaining a speed approximately 1.3 times the stall speed (Vso) of your aircraft. Descend smoothly towards the runway, maintaining 500-600 feet AGL for a graceful landing.

In aviation, flexibility is paramount as each landing presents unique challenges. Adaptation to changing variables is crucial, aiming to gracefully bleed off excessive airspeed and altitude. Remember, always be mindful of wind direction. Safe travels and smooth landings! 🌬️ The Sky's The Limit fans πlot Merchandise Landing Spring 2024. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HELP WITH
THE 2024 AIR RACE CLASSIC
What: The Air Race Classic is a women’s air race that covers almost
2,300 nautical miles. Teams will depart from Carbondale, Illinois
and make eight stops before arriving in Greeley, Colorado.
Where: the Omar N. Bradley Airport (KMBY) in Moberly, Missouri.
When: the race begins (weather depending) on Tuesday, June 18,
2024, and ends on Friday, June 21, 2024, but racers won’t start
arriving at Moberly until Wednesday, June 19. Activities will begin
each day at 6:30AM, and end at sunset.
Activities: we need volunteers to help with timing (log each plane as
it passes a checkpoint at the airport), marshalling aircraft, checking
in racers, transportation (using golf carts or airport vehicles to
transport pilots around the airport, to/from local hotels, etc.), and
hospitality (handing out bottled water, snacks, etc.).
Who: please contact John Brilhart at 573-823-1887 or
[email protected] to volunteer or ask questions. For more
information, go to

Come here to find more detail on the race route, and important dates for the Start and Terminus events.

We had this cool P51 show up at Omar Bradley Airport today. I was busy tending the grill so was unable to video his take-off, but it sure sounded great!

We had a good turnout at Omar Bradley Airport in Moberly, Missouri today. Lots of planes and pilots headed to Oshkosh for Airventure 2023. We were also excited to meet Kevin Lacey from the Airplane Repo show. He was coming through with five airplanes and a bunch of young pilots in training--all headed to Oshkosh. He's been mentoring these young folks in their quest to become pilots. Great job, Kevin!
