My thesis on the human skull focuses on extracting the intelligence from its forms and the beauty of its architecture. When looking at the eye socket, for example, one should not see merely a hole, but rather a combination and interplay of several bones: the frontal bone, the sphenoid bone, the ethmoid bone, the zygomatic bone, the maxillary bone, and the small triangle representing that sublime bone, the palatine bone. This is one aspect; on the other hand, artists consider the study of the sphenoid bone, or even the palatine bone or the ethmoid bone, to be unnecessary for understanding the anatomy of the skull. But once again, I strive to demonstrate through my work that if we do not see, we do not observe—for example, that the sphenoid is the cornerstone and keystone of the skull’s architecture—we would miss the essential; we fail to distinguish the difference between the eye and the gaze, between the visible and the invisible, and to grasp the most important thing: LIFE.
