In Transition Permaculture

In Transition Permaculture Home-scale ecological design and consultation for the shifting landscape. Contact us for an initial conversation.

In Transition Permaculture seeks to bring broad perspectives into individual efforts toward healthy watershed and landscape management. Beginning with individual properties and open spaces, design services specialize in "personal watershed" management, conceiving of an individual property as an integral link in larger watershed, wildlife and human development corridors.

Do you recall the deluge documented here in June 2020? (See the post below.) Since that time, we've begun the iterative process of shaping, hardscaping and vegetating the "adjacent landscape." Basins now capture and contain all of the rainwater draining from the roof of an existing home, while also pulling a percentage of the path's stormwater runoff, as well as greywater from the main and secondary dwellings on-site.

Check out the first season of growth below! Annuals, understoried with perennials, mark the first stage of healthy root development in the soil. Over the next few years, annuals will be managed to allow the perennials to predominate, all of which will be fed by greywater, rain and irrigated creek water.

An unvegetated upslope hardscape drains a deluge of stormwater along a walking path during a recent squall. The adjacent landscape - residing along an upper stretch of the flow - is ripe for design!

We are proud to be in good company as a contributor to the recently published "Addressing Climate Change at the Community Level in the United States."

There is much to be learned from the many stories accounted in this anthology. Let's make sure these resources are accessible to the communities who would benefit most from them.

Keep up the good work everyone!
