Mize High School U.S. History teacher Kyle Magee is bringing history to life in the classroom by dressing up as historical figures that correspond with his students’ lessons.
Magee stepped into the role of Abraham Lincoln on Monday, August 24, 2026, as his class studied the time period surrounding America’s 16th president.
Last week, Magee portrayed George Washington — America’s first president, who also served as Commander in Chief of the Continental Army from 1775 to 1783. The Continental Army served as the military force of the 13 colonies during the American Revolution.
“I have a few costumes that I’m going to wear throughout the year,” said Magee. “I’m trying to get our students more involved in history and make it less boring.”
The costumes also give students an opportunity to interact with the historical figures they are studying.
“The idea is that as I dress up as each historical character, it corresponds with the time period we are currently learning about,” said Magee. “The students get a chance to interview ‘the ghost’ of the character to learn more about him.”
